About the Opportunity
Are you an experienced excavation foreman who thrives in the field and enjoys leading crews on residential basement excavation and grading projects? Our client, a long-established and respected excavation contractor serving the Ottawa region, is looking for a Basement Foreman to oversee daily site operations and drive successful project execution.
As the successful candidate, you'll play a hands-on leadership role, coordinating crews, maintaining productivity and safety standards, and ensuring work is completed to specification and schedule.
Duties include but are not limited to:
Lead and supervise field crews performing excavation, earth moving, and grading work
Plan daily activities in coordination with the Site Superintendent
Conduct daily toolbox talks and communicate project scope and site hazards
Monitor grades and elevations using levels, GPS, and laser equipment
Review work for compliance with project specifications and required tolerances
Record daily labour hours and production quantities
Coordinate field activities to maximize efficiency and quality
Promote and enforce safe work practices across the job site
Read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
Support additional site activities as required
About You
The successful candidate will have the following:
Minimum 3 years of experience leading construction crews
At least 5 years of hands-on residential excavation projects
Strong understanding of grading operations and underground servicing
Ability to read and interpret construction plans and blueprints
Leadership skills with the ability to motivate crews and provide clear direction
Health and safety knowledge related to trenching, excavation, and confined space work; First Aid/CPR certification is considered an asset
Willingness to work extended days (typically 10+ hours) with occasional evening or weekend work when required
