ABOUT THE ROLE:
The Terminal Operator is responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient execution of day-to-day terminal operations. This role supports all aspects of product handling, equipment operation, maintenance, and regulatory compliance within the terminal environment.
Working closely with Terminal Management, Maintenance, Engineering, and HSE teams, the Terminal Operator ensures operational continuity, minimizes downtime, and upholds Greenergy’s standards for safety, performance, and environmental stewardship.
The position requires a hands-on approach to loading/unloading operations, equipment monitoring, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of terminal processes.
KEY ACTIVITES:
Operations Execution & Product Handling
- Execute daily terminal operations including loading and unloading of railcars, trucks, ships, and barges
- Perform tank line-ups, gauging, temperature verification, and documentation
- Operate valves, pumps, meters, and associated systems to control product flow
- Connect/disconnect hoses and mechanical loading arms safely and efficiently
- Monitor gauges and adjust flow rates to ensure safe and accurate transfers
- Conduct railcar movements within the yard and operate equipment such as Rail King or Trackmobile
Equipment Operation & Maintenance
- Operate terminal equipment including loaders, snow removal equipment, and mobile rail equipment
- Perform basic maintenance, inspections, and troubleshooting on pumps, meters, and heating systems
- Prepare equipment for maintenance and issue safe work permits
- Identify equipment deficiencies and coordinate with maintenance teams for resolution
- Support preventative maintenance activities to ensure asset reliability
Safety, Compliance & Emergency Response
- Act as a safety leader by identifying hazards and documenting observations in Airsweb
- Ensure compliance with all Greenergy standards, procedures, and regulatory requirements
- Participate in audits, inspections, and corrective action follow-ups
- Respond effectively to emergencies using proper procedures, equipment, and materials
- Maintain high housekeeping standards across the terminal
Monitoring, Reporting & Documentation
- Maintain accurate logs of operations, equipment readings, and production data
- Complete all required documentation for product transfers and operational activities
- Utilize terminal systems and databases for reporting and tracking activities
- Ensure all records meet regulatory and company compliance standards
Operational Support & Continuous Improvement
- Support terminal performance by identifying inefficiencies and implementing improvements
- Troubleshoot operational issues to minimize downtime and disruptions
- Collaborate with internal teams including HSE, Engineering, and Maintenance
- Assist with offsite inspections and maintenance at retail or satellite locations
- Contribute to cost control initiatives and operational optimization
Planning & Team Contribution
- Plan and execute assigned tasks in alignment with operational priorities and schedules
- Participate in training programs and continuous development initiatives
- Support team responsiveness by being available for operational needs and emergencies
- Build working relationships with contractors and service providers
- Take initiative in improving terminal processes and supporting company objectives
Person Specification
Qualifications
- High school diploma required; college diploma or technical trade preferred
- Valid driver’s license required
- Basic computer proficiency and ability to learn operational systems
- Basic mathematical skills including conversions and calculations used in terminal operations
- Ability to read and interpret procedures, safety documentation, and operational instructions
Experience
- Experience in terminal, industrial, or logistics operations preferred
- Basic mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting capability
- Experience with heavy equipment operation (e.g., loaders, rail equipment) considered an asset
Preferred Certifications
- TSSA Petroleum Mechanic certification (or willingness to obtain)
- CROR or rail operation qualifications
- Valid First Aid certification
- Instrumentation and controls experience
