Job Summary
We are seeking an energetic and reliable Casual Handy Man to join our team! In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining the safety, functionality, and appearance of our facility through hands-on repairs, troubleshooting, and general maintenance tasks. Your proactive approach and mechanical aptitude will ensure our environment remains welcoming and well-kept. This position offers flexible hours and the opportunity to make a positive impact in a caring community.
Duties
- Perform routine repairs and maintenance across the facility, including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and painting tasks
- Conduct inspections of equipment, fixtures, and building systems to identify issues early
- Connect with outside contractors regarding service requirements that exceed your capabilities.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed and routine inspections completed.
- Take quarterly samples of house water and deliver to lab at Soldiers Memorial Hospital.
- Take redeemables to local waste management facility, once or twice a year.
- Maintain an organized workshop and outside storage areas.
- Must be able to physically move small furniture (chairs, dressers, night stands etc.)
- Assist with facilities maintenance projects, ensuring safety protocols are followed at all times.
- Sort recyclables (cardboard, plastics) and put out for bi-weekly collection.
- Routine inspection and maintenance on generators, sump pumps.
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests from staff or residents to ensure minimal disruption.
- Work directly with facility administrator regarding upcoming projects or repairs.
Experience
- Proven hands-on experience in facilities maintenance or general handyman role
- Experience with basic plumbing, electrical or painting is preferred
- Strong communication skills in English for clear documentation and teamwork
- Ability to interact with residents of a Long Term Care facility in a calm, friendly and personable manner.
- Ability to work independently with a proactive attitude and a sense fo humour in a dynamic environment

Pay: $20.00-$22.00 per hour
