Located on the eastern edge of Ottawa, Camelot Golf & Country Club is a private member-owned club with high standards of operation focused on delivering service excellence to our Members and guests. Routinely rated among Canada’s Top 100 Golf Courses, Camelot is seeking an exceptional culinary leader to support our Food & Beverage department and contribute to the Club’s strategic objectives.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Executive Chef, this is a year-round leadership position with the quieter winter months serving as balance for the busy golf season from April through October.
The Sous Chef will assist in overseeing daily culinary operations and supporting execution across the Club’s primary service formats, including:
- À la carte dining in the Legend Grill
- Formal dining in the Great Hall
- Banquet and private event service
- Golf tournaments and member events
- Buffet-style functions
This is a hands-on role requiring strong leadership presence, operational discipline and the ability to perform effectively in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.
The successful candidate will be service-driven, visible within the operation and committed to maintaining consistency in food quality and presentation. They will mentor and support culinary team members, contribute to a positive and structured kitchen culture, and work collaboratively with front-of-house leadership to ensure an exceptional Member experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Executive Chef in overseeing daily kitchen operations
- Lead culinary staff during service and banquet execution
- Maintain consistency in quality, portion control and presentation
- Assist in managing inventory, labour coordination and food cost control
- Monitor par levels and ensure proper food rotation
- Ensure compliance with food safety and sanitation standards
- Train and mentor line cooks and culinary students
- Contribute to menu development and operational improvements
- Maintain composure and leadership during peak service periods
Qualifications & Skills
- Minimum 1 year experience in a kitchen leadership role at the level of Sous Chef or equivalent
- Experience in banquet and high-volume service environments
- Knowledge of inventory management, labour control and food cost management
- Culinary diploma or related post-secondary education considered an asset
- Food Safe certification required
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word
- Service and Member-focused attitude
- Strong leadership and communication skills; bilingualism considered an asset
- Responsible, reliable and professional in presentation
- Ability to perform effectively under pressure
