Ground Worker / Chipper OperatorOverview
We are seeking a dedicated Ground Worker / Chipper Operator to support tree care, vegetation management, and site cleanup operations. This role involves working outdoors in various weather conditions and assisting crews with tree pruning, removals, brush management, and debris processing. The ideal candidate is safety-conscious, physically fit, and capable of working efficiently in a team environment.
Duties
- Operate wood chippers safely and efficiently to process brush, limbs, and tree debris
- Feed brush and wood materials into chipping equipment following established safety procedures
- Assist with tree pruning, removals, and vegetation management projects
- Perform daily inspections and basic maintenance of chippers, chainsaws, and related equipment
- Load, unload, and transport tools, equipment, and materials to and from job sites
- Assist in site setup, traffic control, and work zone safety measures as required
- Remove, stack, and dispose of brush, logs, and debris from work areas
- Support storm cleanup and emergency response operations when required
- Maintain a clean and organized work area and equipment yard
- Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and industry best practices
- Wear and maintain required personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Communicate effectively with crew members and supervisors to ensure safe and efficient operations
Qualifications
- Experience using hand tools, power tools, and outdoor equipment preferred
- Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting, carrying, dragging, and loading heavy materials
- Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to safety
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Willingness to learn and follow safe operating procedures
- Prior experience in tree care, arboriculture, landscaping, construction, or vegetation management is considered an asset
Preferred Qualifications
- Valid Chainsaw Operator Certificate or equivalent chainsaw safety training
- Current Working at Heights Certification
- Valid Ontario Class G2 or Class G Driver's Licence with a clean driving record
- Experience operating wood chippers, chainsaws, brush cutters, and related equipment
- Knowledge of tree care, vegetation management, and safe work practices
- First Aid/CPR Certification is considered an asset
- Traffic Control Person (TCP) training is considered an asset
Working Conditions
- Outdoor work in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, snow, and wind
- Exposure to noise, dust, wood chips, and uneven terrain
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, and operating equipment
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hats, safety boots, hearing protection, eye protection, gloves, and high-visibility clothing
Pay: $18.00-$22.00 per hour
