Our client is in the mining industry sector and they are searching for a Senior Accountant for a 3 month contract. You will be responsible for the following:
- Reviews operating site monthly financial packages to ensure compliance with IFRS, including the accounting for stockpiles and leach pad inventory, reclamation obligations and impairment assessments. Perform variance analysis to assess performance and assist in decision making
- Assists site finance teams with accounting issues and questions
- Supports the preparation of the site cash flow statement
- Participates in the preparation of the Company’s quarterly and annual financial reports under International Financial Reporting Standards and in accordance with regulatory standards
- Support monthly financial close process and monthly consolidation process through the preparation or review of supporting workbooks and journal entries to ensure completeness and accuracy of reporting
- Interfaces with Corporate Accounting Team to support the consolidation process
- Researches, analyzes, and recommends the proper application of accounting standards for complex accounting issues. Prepares or reviews related accounting position papers and works cooperatively with regional, site and corporate teams to ensure recommendations are appropriately implemented
- Participates in the ongoing development and maintenance of accounting policies and procedures and related accounting processes, with a primary focus on operational areas, including preparing process documentation
- Support the continuous improvement of financial reporting by utilizing OneStream consolidation platform to refine existing processes or develop new processes that improve quality and timeliness of reporting
- Liaises with external and internal auditors, providing them with required analyses and responding to their queries
- Ensures compliance with internal controls in a SOX environment
The ideal candidate is a designated accountant with 5+ years of work experience preferably with a high-growth, multi-jurisdictional public company or a Big 4 accounting firm.
You also have the following key skills and experience for the contract role:
- Comprehensive understanding of IFRS, financial analysis and public company reporting requirements
- Solid knowledge of internal control requirements relating to financial reporting and familiarity with planning and budgeting processes and management reporting
- Excellent analytical and written and verbal communication skills
- Advanced user of Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint; experience with SAP desirable
- Team player with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build partnerships across the organization
- Attention to detail, with ability to work independently and manage multiple competing priorities and deadlines
- Advanced Excel skills
