Job Summary
Mari’s Artisan Gelato & Paleta is seeking a reliable and responsible Key Holder to help oversee daily shop operations and provide excellent customer service. This position is ideal for someone with customer service or food service experience who is looking to take on additional responsibility in a leadership role.
The Key Holder will be trusted to open and/or close the shop, supervise staff during shifts, maintain store standards, and ensure a positive experience for every customer. This role requires strong attention to detail, dependability, and the ability to work independently.
Responsibilities
- Open and/or close the shop according to established procedures.
- Secure the premises, lock doors, and follow all security and cash-handling protocols.
- Count cash drawers and complete end-of-day cash reconciliation.
- Monitor and record freezer and display case temperatures as required.
- Provide friendly and knowledgeable customer service.
- Serve gelato, paletas, and other products while maintaining presentation standards.
- Assist with restocking products, supplies, toppings, and packaging materials.
- Maintain cleanliness and food safety standards throughout the shop.
- Support and guide team members during shifts.
- Handle customer concerns professionally and escalate issues when necessary.
- Communicate inventory shortages, equipment concerns, or operational issues to management.
- Complete opening and closing checklists accurately and consistently.
- Assist with light prep work, including packaging, labeling, and stocking products.
Qualifications
- Previous customer service, food service, retail, or hospitality experience preferred.
- Strong cash handling and basic math skills.
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions when management is not on-site.
- Dependable, trustworthy, and punctual.
- Comfortable leading by example and assisting newer team members.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Must be available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Food Handler Certification is an asset.
Preferred Qualities
- Experience opening or closing a business.
- Experience working with food, desserts, cafés, ice cream, gelato, or similar environments.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Interest in growing into a larger leadership role within the business.
