Shop Floor Assistant
Position Summary
The Shop Floor Assistant plays a critical role in supporting the flow of materials, machined components, and finished products throughout Lauer Machine & Mfg. Ltd.’s manufacturing operations. Working closely with the Manager of Operations and the Shipping/Receiving & Deburring Coordinator, this position ensures parts move efficiently from machining through secondary processes, deburring, inspection, packaging, and shipment.
The Shop Floor Assistant is responsible for deburring, cleaning, preparing, organizing, and handling machined parts while assisting with shipping, receiving, parts movement, and general shop support activities. This role is ideal for an individual looking to develop a career within a modern CNC machining and manufacturing environment.

Core ResponsibilitiesDeburring & Part Preparation
· Deburr machined components using hand tools, files, abrasive pads, rotary tools, and other approved finishing equipment.
· Remove sharp edges, burrs, chips, and excess material while maintaining dimensional integrity and part quality.
· Clean parts after machining operations and prepare them for inspection, coating, assembly, or shipment.
· Visually inspect parts for obvious defects, damage, or machining concerns and report issues to supervisors.
· Ensure parts are handled carefully to prevent damage to precision-machined surfaces.
· Follow traveler instructions, work orders, and drawings to ensure proper finishing requirements are met.
Production Support
· Assist in moving jobs and materials between machining, inspection, shipping, painting, and outside processing operations.
· Organize work-in-process and completed jobs to support efficient workflow.
· Support machinists and supervisors with general production requirements.
· Participate in maintaining process flow and production efficiency throughout the facility.
Shipping Responsibilities
· Assist with daily outbound shipping activities.
· Verify, package, and prepare completed orders for shipment.
· Organize skids, boxes, and shipment staging areas.
· Ensure parts are properly packaged to prevent shipping damage.
General Shop Support
· Support housekeeping initiatives throughout the facility.
· Maintain clean and organized work areas.
· Dispose of scrap materials, chips, packaging, and waste properly.
· Assist other departments and personnel as required.
· Participate in continuous improvement activities and workplace organization initiatives.
Health & Safety
· Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
· Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
· Safely operate material handling equipment when trained and authorized.
· Maintain a safe and organized work environment.
· Report unsafe conditions, incidents, and equipment concerns immediately.
Required Skills & Qualifications
· Ability to work independently and as part of a team

· Basic mechanical aptitude and familiarity with hand tools
· Ability to lift up to 50 lbs safely

Preferred Qualifications
· Previous manufacturing or machine shop experience
· Experience using hand tools and measuring equipment
· Basic blueprint/drawing reading skills
· Forklift experience or certification
Training will be provided for suitable candidates.
Working Conditions
· Manufacturing and machine shop environment.
· Frequent standing, walking, lifting, and material handling
· Exposure to machine noise, metal chips, coolants, and industrial equipment
· Day shift: Monday to Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
