Seeking a Rehabilitation Assistant with excellent communication, interpersonal, and critical thinking skills who is comfortable working in a variety of acute inpatient units. This position will be primarily responsible for carrying out treatment to inpatients, as assigned by either the Occupational Therapist and/or Physiotherapist in the Medicine Program. Reporting to the Clinical Manager, this permanent part-time role will provide weekday clinical coverage on 2E, which houses acute inpatient medicine.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- The primary role of the Rehabilitation Assistant is to implement therapeutic programs for patients as assigned and/or supervised by the Occupational Therapist and/or the Physical Therapist. This includes the management of patient-related equipment and therapeutic tools.
- Works effectively as a member of an interprofessional team, collaborating with other disciplines to provide comprehensive patient care
- Contributes to the academic mandate of the organization as an educator, resource or support for staff, students and members of the academic and professional community
- Identifies and addresses educational needs for patients and their families
- Demonstrates commitment to ongoing professional development in order to continue to provide optimal patient care
- Is committed to, and participates in, ongoing quality improvement in the organization
- Provides patient care in accordance with all professional and organizational standards
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary diploma from a recognized Rehabilitation Assistant program (e.g. combination OTA/PTA Program) required.
- Current BLS certification required or within 3 months of hire.
- Knowledge/experience with medicine patients, wheelchairs & mobility aids preferred.
- Basic computer skills preferred.
- Must have excellent working knowledge of the English Language both verbal and written.
- Must have strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Must be able to provide support to multi-disciplinary team.
- Must be able to prioritize and organize duties, and work well independently.
- Must be able to provide patient care in both group and individual settings.
- Must be able to meet the physical requirements of bending, transferring, assisting and supporting patients.
- Satisfactory attendance record.
