We are seeking a detail-oriented, organized and motivated Legal Assistant and Paralegal or Articled Student to join our legal team.
The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills and a commitment to providing exceptional support in a fast-paced legal office.
This role involves assisting lawyers with various tasks, ensuring that all documentation is accurate and delivered in timely fashion, and contributing to the overall efficiency of the legal practice.
Duties of Legal Assistant
- Provide administrative support to lawyers and paralegals, including managing schedules and coordinating meetings.
- Perform data entry and maintain organized filing systems for case files and documents.
- Assist in project management by tracking deadlines and ensuring timely completion of tasks.
- Utilize Esilaw (now called Unity Accounting) for managing client files/accounting.
- Utilize Microsoft Office (including Outlook, Word, Excel) and Adobe for document management and collaboration within the team.
- Maintain professional phone etiquette while communicating with clients, courts, and all others.
- Support clerical functions such as scanning, copying, and faxing documents as needed.
Duties of Paralegal
- Conduct thorough research on legal precedents and case law using tools such as CanLii and other databases.
- Utilize Microsoft Office (including Outlook, Word, Excel) and Adobe for document management and collaboration within the team.
- Draft legal documents, pleadings, and correspondence with attention to detail.
- Conduct interviews with clients and witnesses, documenting information accurately.
- Proofread legal documents for clarity, accuracy, and compliance with legal standards.
- Support clerical functions such as scanning, copying, and faxing documents as needed.
Requirements for Legal Assistant
- Proven administrative experience in a legal setting is preferred; clerical experience will also be considered.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
