POSITION OVERVIEW: DCN is seeking two compassionate and skilled Pre-Employment Support Workers to join our Pre-Employment Supports Program. This is a full-time, two-year term position supporting individuals facing multiple and interconnected barriers to employment, including limited work history, education gaps, literacy and numeracy challenges, housing or transportation instability, childcare responsibilities, and physical or mental health concerns. The Pre-Employment Support Worker provides individualized, strengths-based support to help clients build employment readiness, strengthen life skills, and move toward sustainable employment. The position works closely with income assistance staff, community partners, and employers to ensure coordinated and effective service delivery.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Client Engagement & Case Coordination

Collaborate with income assistance staff to identify and support eligible clients

Build respectful, supportive relationships that encourage accountability and participation

Participate in ongoing case coordination with internal and external partners
Assessment & Action Planning

Conduct comprehensive pre-employment assessments, including employment history, education and training needs, job readiness, life stability factors (housing, transportation, childcare), and health considerations

Develop and monitor individualized action plans outlining goals, responsibilities, timelines, and required supports

Review and update plans regularly to reflect client progress and changing circumstances
Workshops & Direct Supports

Plan and deliver structured pre-employment and life skills workshops (four per year) covering topics such as barrier reduction, resume development, job search strategies, interview preparation, and workplace expectations

Provide one-on-one coaching and referrals to training, education, wellness, cultural, and community support services
Monitoring, Documentation & Partnerships

Track client progress and maintain accurate, confidential case documentation

Provide regular updates to income assistance case workers

Build and maintain partnerships with service providers, training organizations, and employers

Support program administration, reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

Diploma or degree in Social Work, Human Services, Employment Counseling, or related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience)

Experience supporting individuals facing barriers to employment

Knowledge of employment readiness, life skills programming, and community resources

Strong assessment, case management, documentation, and organizational skills

Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities

Ability to work collaboratively within a team and with community partners

Demonstrated commitment to culturally responsive, client-centered, and strengths-based practice
