Temporary Summer Student – Full time (May-September – 16 weeks)
Hours: 35 weekly, Days
POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for planting, weeding, pruning, and watering of flowers, trees, and shrubs. General maintenance and appearance of grounds. Monitoring and maintaining plant health. Creating a pleasant environment that is safe and secure for residents, staff, volunteers and visitors.
Qualifications:
- Extensive knowledge of perennials, annuals and shrubs required.
- Previous experience as a gardener or in a horticultural environment is preferred.
- Preference will be given to candidates with post secondary education specific to horticulture.
- Able to Communicate in English both verbal and written
- Able to work independently as well as in a team environment
- Assisting with the maintenance department as required.
- Time Management – Perform tasks despite frequent interruptions.
- Demonstrates critical thinking skills
- Ability to set priorities and multitask
- Enthusiastic with a demonstrated history of excellent work ethic
- Knowledge of and ability to operate a variety of garden tools and small power tools, required
- Accountability and Dependability
- Adhere to safe work practices and procedures
- Willing to support the Care Centre’s mission, health care philosophy and objectives
Education:
- Enrolled or planning to enrol in post secondary
- Experience with seniors is an asset
