Senior Electrical Estimator

Spark Electrical Services is seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Estimator to play a key role in the continued growth of our company.
This position is more than preparing takeoffs and submitting bids. We are looking for a strategic thinker who can identify opportunities, build relationships, develop accurate and profitable estimates, and help drive the long-term success of the business.
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the complete estimating process, from opportunity identification and bid preparation to project turnover and back costing. You will work directly with ownership, project management, suppliers, and clients to secure profitable work and contribute to the growth of the company.
Compensation
- Expected annual earnings range: $45,000 – $110,000, based on experience, performance, company revenue, and project profitability

What You'll Be Responsible For
Estimating & Pre-Construction
- Prepare detailed and accurate estimates for commercial, industrial, multi-family, tenant improvement, and service projects.
- Review drawings, specifications, addenda, and tender documents.
- Complete material takeoffs, labour calculations, and project budgets.
- Solicit and evaluate supplier and subcontractor pricing.
- Analyze project risks and identify opportunities to improve profitability.
- Prepare bid proposals and tender submissions.
- Manage multiple tenders simultaneously while meeting strict deadlines.
- Build fixed service price book.
Business Development & Opportunity Management
- Monitor bidding platforms including ConstructConnect, BuildingConnected, BidCentral, PlanHub, MERX, and other industry tender portals.
- Identify and pursue strategic project opportunities that align with company objectives.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with general contractors, developers, consultants, and property managers.
- Attend site meetings, walkthroughs, and pre-bid meetings when required.
- Assist in expanding the company's presence within existing and new markets.
Project Turnover & Financial Oversight
- Lead project handoff meetings with operations and project management teams.
- Assist with budget development and project startup planning.
- Support project managers with change order pricing and cost analysis.
- Review awarded projects to compare estimated versus actual costs.
- Continuously improve estimating accuracy and profitability through post-project analysis.
Operations & Technology
- Maintain and improve estimating databases, labour units, and pricing structures.
- Utilize QuickBooks for budgeting, job costing, and profitability tracking.
- Leverage Google Workspace and cloud-based collaboration tools to support operations.
- Assist with maintaining vendor, supplier, and client databases.
- Support company growth initiatives through technology and process improvements.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of electrical estimating experience required.
- Electrical industry experience is mandatory.
- Journeyman Electrician certification considered a strong asset – but not a requirement.
- Proven experience estimating commercial, industrial, institutional, and multi-family projects.
- Strong understanding of electrical construction methods and Canadian Electrical Code requirements.
- Experience with ConstructConnect is required.
- Experience with BuildingConnected, BidCentral, MERX, PlanHub, or similar tender platforms is preferred.
- Experience with QuickBooks and construction job costing software is preferred.
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and negotiation skills.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Valid driver's license and personal transportation.
