About Us
Stratos Construction Ltd. is a Vancouver-based construction company specializing in renovations, custom builds, and commercial tenant improvements. We self-perform framing (wood and steel stud), forming, demolition and other renovation tasks. We're built on craftsmanship, clear communication, and accountability — values that run from the office to the job site. We're a small team that's still growing, and our office and field crews work as one unit.
The Job
We're looking for a Lead Carpenter with site supervision experience — someone who can be on the tools and lead a crew. This is a hands-on role. You'll be on site working alongside your team, ensuring quality and efficiency.
You'll work closely with our Project Manager, who handles scheduling, budgets, and office-side coordination. Your job is to lead on the ground, keep the crew moving, and make sure the PM has what they need to keep the project on track.
Responsibilities
Running the Site
- Work alongside your crew daily, leading by example and holding a high standard of workmanship on every task
- Coordinate carpenters, labourers, and subtrades across all phases of the build
- Sequence trades so work keeps moving with no unnecessary downtime
- Inspect work at each stage before the job moves forward
- Run daily toolbox talks — brief the crew, sort out concerns, set the plan for the day
- Assist with training and mentoring junior workers and labourers
- Keep the site safe, clean, and organized at all times
Talking to the Office
- Daily check-in with the PM — progress, upcoming needs, any issues
- Submit daily site logs and photos
- Flag scope changes, trade issues, or schedule concerns
- Join weekly production/scheduling meetings with the PM and office team
Subs & Clients
- Coordinate subcontractors on site and hold them to their scope, schedule, and standard of work
- Handle client site visits professionally — anything outside your scope goes to the PM
- Maintain good working relationships with trades and suppliers
Paperwork & Site Admin
- Prepare and submit change order requests, RFIs, and site documentation accurately and on time
- Manage material deliveries, flag shortages or delays to the PM right away
- Keep site records up to date for the PM's budget tracking and reporting
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years' experience in residential and commercial construction
- Hands-on carpentry skills — forming and framing required; finishing work (base, case, crown), window/door install, and millwork are an asset
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications
- Experience with commercial tenant improvement projects is an asset
- Production-minded, with safety as the top priority every day
- Knowledge of trade sequencing, BC Building Code, and WorkSafeBC requirements
- Reliable, proactive, and communicative
- Good judgment in the field — able to make calls independently and know when to ask for a second opinion
- Organized enough to keep up with documentation without it pulling you off the tools
- Comfortable with project management software (Procore, Bluebeam, MS Project, etc.)
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
Requirements
- Must reside in the Lower Mainland
- Must have own tools and safety equipment
- Occupational First Aid ticket (Level 1 or higher) is an asset
- Physically able to lift 50+ lbs and work in both indoor and outdoor conditions
- Able to travel to various job sites as needed
What We Offer
- $30–$45/hr based on experience
- Performance bonuses
- 10 days paid vacation, plus all BC statutory holidays
- Direct access to ownership — real opportunity to grow with the company
- A team that respects the trades and values people who take pride in their work
- Potential for unpaid time off depending on availability
