Job Summary
The Registered Pharmacy Technician supports the pharmacist in preparing and dispensing medications, while also helping with the day-to-day operations of the pharmacy. They play a key role in making sure patients receive the right medications safely and efficiently.
General Dispensary Responsibilities
- Oversees Kroll within the pharmacy
- Coordinates ordering of methadone-related supplies, including bottles, Tang, labels, and lids
- Manages ordering of diabetic supplies, including test strips and glucose meters
- Completes all required system updates on a weekly basis
- Performs narcotic inventory counts and reconciliation in accordance with regulatory requirements (every 3–6 months)
- Supports Public Health initiatives during influenza season by:
- Monitoring and documenting refrigerator temperatures
- Ordering influenza vaccines and coordinating pick-up
- Participates in the dispensary weekend rotation schedule
- Practices within the full scope of the Registered Pharmacy Technician role while working in the dispensary, including:
- Verifying refill prescriptions for accuracy
- Receiving and processing verbal prescription orders from prescribers
- Providing patient education on diabetic products (e.g., glucose meters, test strips), as appropriate
- Liaises with McKesson IT to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues within the dispensary and packaging areas
- Adheres to all company policies, including the Confidentiality Agreement, and maintains strict patient privacy standards
Quality Assurance & Compliance
- Maintain accurate records in accordance with regulatory standards (e.g., narcotics, controlled substances)
- Support audit preparation and documentation reviews
- Ensure adherence to standards set by the Ontario College of Pharmacists
- Identify and report medication errors or near misses
Workflow & Operations
- Oversee dispensary workflow and prioritize prescription queues
- Train and mentor pharmacy assistants or new staff
- Support implementation of new systems, processes, or programs
- Coordinate with prescribers’ offices for clarifications and renewals
Inventory & Vendor Management
- Manage drug shortages and source alternatives
- Process returns, recalls, and expired medications (including reverse distribution)
- Helps maintain relationships with vendors
Teamwork

Qualifications & Skills
- Registered Pharmacy Technician in good standing
- 3–5 years’ experience in a fast-paced pharmacy environment
- Experience with Kroll or similar system is preferred
- Strong mathematical and technical skills
- Committed to ongoing professional development
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Strong listening skills with a patient-focused approach
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
- Ability to multitask and work effectively under pressure
- Team-oriented with a professional attitude
