Job Description
Demo Works is currently seeking experienced Bricklayers / Masons with a strong background in brick remediation, restoration, removal, and replacement work. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience working with existing masonry assemblies, including brick veneer removal, reinstallation, repointing, sealant removal, flashing-related repairs, and general building envelope remediation.
This position is best suited for skilled tradespeople who take pride in clean workmanship, understand the importance of matching existing brickwork, and can work safely and efficiently on active construction sites.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Removing and replacing damaged or deteriorated brick and masonry units
- Performing brick remediation and restoration work on existing buildings
- Repointing mortar joints and matching existing mortar profiles where required
- Assisting with brick veneer removal and reinstallation
- Working around existing building envelope components, including sealants, flashings, openings, and adjacent finishes
- Ensuring work is completed neatly, safely, and to a high standard
- Reading basic construction drawings, specifications, and site instructions
- Maintaining a clean and safe work area
- Working with supervisors, site personnel, and other trades to complete the work efficiently
- Following company health and safety procedures at all times
Qualifications
Applicants should have:
- Proven experience as a bricklayer, mason, or masonry restoration worker
- Experience with brick remediation, repair, and replacement work
- Ability to lay brick cleanly and accurately
- Experience with repointing, mortar matching, and restoration work considered an asset
- Ability to work from ladders, scaffolding, swing stages, or lifts where required
- Strong attention to detail and pride in workmanship
- Ability to work independently or as part of a crew
- Reliable transportation to and from job sites
- Valid Working at Heights certification preferred
- WHMIS and 4 Steps certification preferred
- Ability to follow site safety rules and company procedures
What We Are Looking For
We are looking for reliable, skilled workers who understand that remediation work requires more care than new construction. Candidates must be comfortable working on existing buildings, protecting adjacent finishes, and producing work that blends properly with the original masonry.
The right candidate will be dependable, professional, safety-conscious, and able to take direction from site supervisors.
Assets
The following would be considered an asset:
- Experience with commercial or institutional building remediation
- Experience removing and reinstalling brick veneer
- Experience with caulking/sealant removal around masonry openings
- Experience working on scaffold or aerial lifts
- Own basic masonry tools
- Valid driver’s licence
Work Conditions
- Work will take place on active construction sites
- Outdoor work may be required in various weather conditions
- Some lifting, bending, climbing, and physical labour required
- Must be comfortable working at heights when required
Pay: $26.00-$30.00 per hour
