POSITION: Pharmacy Assistant
Reporting to: Pharmacy Manager

Position Summary: The Pharmacy Assistant supports the pharmacist in the accurate preparation, dispensing, and sale of prescription medications while providing efficient, courteous service to patients. This role involves direct patient interaction, prescription processing, inventory management, and administrative support, in compliance with provincial regulations and internal policies.
Position Responsibilities
- Always provide exceptional customer service to clients.
- Greet and assist patients at the pharmacy counter and by phone. Receive written prescriptions, retrieve completed prescriptions, and handle prescription pick-up.
- Process point-of-sale transactions, including cash, debit, credit.
- Enter and update patient notes
- Complete prescription preparation by pouring, counting, packaging and labeling as necessary.
- Processing and billing of prescriptions including troubleshooting adjudication and insurance claim issues.
- Order, receive, tag, stock, and rotate prescription drugs and pharmacy supplies in accordance with storage standards and safety procedures.
- Order, receive, tag, and stock over-the-counter merchandise in line with department merchandising plans. Create product signage and assist patients with product location.
- Arrange delivery of prescriptions as required.
- Liaise with healthcare providers to ensure accuracy and completeness of prescription information.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the pharmacy area, including routine cleaning tasks and waste handling.
- Always maintain patient confidentiality.
- Follow all safety, security, and confidentiality policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Pharmacy Manager or Supervisor.
Work Environment and Job Complexity
The Pharmacy Assistant works in a retail pharmacy environment that includes both compounding and online service components. The role requires the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently while maintaining accuracy, professionalism, and compliance within a regulated healthcare setting.

· Comfort using Kroll and point-of-sale systems.

Direction Received
The Pharmacy Assistant works under the general direction of the Pharmacy Manager and supervising pharmacists. The role requires a self-motivated individual who can collaborate effectively with pharmacy staff and follow operational and professional direction from the management team.
Job Knowledge, Education and Work Experience
- Demonstrated experience in retail or customer service roles.
- Experience with ODB and third-party payor reimbursement and exception handling is an asset.
- Experience using the Kroll Pharmacy Management System is an asset.
- Post-secondary education in a pharmacy-related field is an asset.
