Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Carpenter to join our dynamic construction team on Salt Spring Island, BC.
Duties
- Read and interpret detailed blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to accurately execute projects.
- Prepare layouts in conformance to building codes, using measuring tools.
- Measure, cut, shape, assemble, and join materials made of wood and wood substitutes.
- Build foundations, install floor beams, lay subflooring, and erect walls/roof systems.
- Fit and install windows, doors, stairs, mouldings, and hardware.
- Lead and perform concrete forming, rebar installation, masonry work, and roofing tasks with precision.
- Install cabinetry, drywall, siding, flooring, tile, and perform finishing work such as painting and caulking.
- Build custom high quality structures such as saunas, sheds, and outbuildings
- Supervise, mentor, and coordinate construction crews and apprentices on site.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe job site in accordance with WorkSafeBC regulations.
- Operate hand tools, power tools, and other specialized equipment safely and efficiently.
- Collaborate with project manager to plan workflows and troubleshoot technical issues during construction or restoration projects.
- Support handyman tasks including plumbing, electrical work, siding installation, and general repairs as needed.
Qualifications
- At minimum 5 years proven experience in carpentry or construction, 10 + years preferred
- Strong background in residential, commercial, and industrial construction including single family home construction, steel structures, and precast concrete construction.
- Strong custom woodworking/finishing skills preferred.
- Proficiency in blueprint reading, schematics interpretation, and construction estimating.
- Skilled in concrete forming, masonry, roofing, siding installation, tile laying, drywall installation, painting & finishing.
- Knowledge of plumbing systems, electrical wiring basics, rebar installation, manufacturing processes or restoration techniques is desirable.
- Ability to use hand tools and power tools including stationary and handheld woodworking machinery (track saws, planers, jointers) safely while maintaining high-quality craftsmanship standards.
- Strong understanding of safety protocols related to construction sites including scaffolding use and hazardous material handling.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to adapt quickly to changing project requirements.
- Ability to work both collaboratively and independently within a team environment, show leadership qualities and be both efficient and reliable.
- Must be located on Salt Spring Island, BC
Pay: $32.00-$45.00 per hour
