Position: IT System Administrator

Job Purpose
We are seeking an experienced and motivated IT System Administrator to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in hybrid identity (Active Directory and Microsoft Entra ID), Microsoft 365, endpoint management, virtual machines, storage area networks (SAN), enterprise networking and security, and cloud services, with experience in the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe).
The IT System Administrator, Technology Services is an integral member of the Technology Services team and is responsible for the technical operations of key World Vision Canada IT systems, spanning on-premises infrastructure and Microsoft 365 / Azure cloud services.
A problem-solver at their core, they will work directly with other functional areas to maintain and optimize the integrations of the ecosystem and the data that passes from one system to another.
As an IT System Administrator, you will ensure the smooth, secure, and efficient operation of our organization’s IT infrastructure while achieving key performance metrics.
This is a hybrid role, largely remote, requiring approximately 20% of time spent in office. The ideal candidate is located in the GTA.
Responsibilities
- Manage and support hybrid identity across Active Directory and Microsoft Entra ID, Windows Server 2016–2022 environments, and Exchange 2016 / Exchange Online in a hybrid configuration.
- Administer and support endpoint management systems, including Microsoft Intune, Entra ID device management, Autopilot, and Group Policy.
- Manage and maintain virtual server environments (VMware and Azure), including installation, configuration, and maintenance.
- Manage, monitor, and optimize performance of storage area networks (SAN) and cloud storage. Maintain backups and disaster recovery systems, including regular recovery validation testing.
- Assist with the day over day operations of the organization’s cybersecurity tooling, including Microsoft Defender XDR (EDR), Darktrace, Microsoft Purview, conditional access, MFA, and patching.
- Administer network and perimeter infrastructure, including FortiGate firewalls, FortiClient EMS, SSL-VPN with SAML/Entra SSO, and Cisco Meraki switching and wireless.
- Provide support and administration for cloud applications, including Microsoft 365, email, OneDrive, SharePoint, and Teams.
- Provide support for corporate applications, including installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Maintain the security and integrity of the organization’s IT systems and data.
- Ensure compliance with organizational standards and regulations, such as PCI DSS.
- Collaborate with other teams to optimize and improve the efficiency of systems and applications, using the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) as a guide.
- Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and recommend solutions that align with the organization’s goals and objectives.
- Track and report on key system performance metrics, including uptime, response time, and customer satisfaction.
- Support projects to optimize current system processes to scale for growth, efficiency, and automation.
- Update and maintain system architecture diagrams and documentation. Develop and implement IT policies and procedures.
- Equip Tier 1 and Tier 2 support staff with the information required to handle entry-level system tickets.
- Deploy production updates during scheduled maintenance windows, largely after-hours. Updates include, but are not limited to, .NET (IIS), CRM, AD schema updates, and firewall/network changes.
- Collaborate with other teams and vendors to ensure World Vision Canada’s standards are being met.
- Cross-train, guide, and equip other members of the Technology Services team to ensure organizational stability and flexibility.
- Provide after-hours support in the event of an outage of any of WVC’s critical systems, or for project-based work, deployments, or maintenance to WVC’s infrastructure.
Qualifications
- BSc in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent in training and experience.
- 5 years’ work experience in an IT administrative capacity.
- Experience working with:
- Active Directory and Microsoft Entra ID (hybrid identity), and Windows Server
- Exchange and Microsoft 365
- Endpoint management (Microsoft Intune)
- Virtual machines (VMware and Azure)
- SAN solutions and/or cloud storage, and backup / disaster recovery
- Strong communication (written & verbal) and interpersonal skills.
- Experience in a PCI DSS–scoped environment and familiarity with Defender XDR, Darktrace, or Purview is an asset.
