Position Summary:
The Helper is able to organize, control, and prioritize their area of responsibility and carry out tasks to completion within established timelines while abiding by all Vicwest health and safety rules. Reporting to the Production Supervisor, this role provides support to production operations within the Acheson facility. Helpers assist with a variety of manufacturing activities and may specialize in either crate construction or production support involving the operation of mobile equipment. They provide assistance to Machine Operators and other production team members as required.
Key Accountabilities:
- Production Support & Operational Assistance: Assist with daily production activities to support the efficient flow of work throughout the plant, ensuring production requirements are met safely and effectively
- Health Safety & Workplace Compliance: Maintain a safe and clean working environment by following all Vicwest health and safety rules, using tools and equipment safely, and adhering to established work procedures.
- Team Collaboration & Operational Flexibility: Work closely with co-workers and supervisors to complete tasks, support production processes, and adapt to changing priorities and assignments as required.
Major Responsibilities
- Assisting in production processes.
- Helping Machine Operators and other production employees when required.
- Maintaining a safe and clean working environment.
- Collaborating with and assisting co-workers.
- Demonstrating a strong ability to self-manage and work independently.
- Using a variety of hand and power tools safely and effectively.
- Following all Vicwest health and safety policies and procedures.
- Performing other duties throughout the plant, as required.
- Building custom crates and skids for finished products based on product dimensions and shipping requirements.
- Measuring products accurately using tape measures and other measuring devices.
- Calculate dimensions and material requirements to ensure proper fit and protection of products.
- Selecting, cutting, and assembling lumber and related materials.
- Operating hand, air and power tools required from crate construction.
- Inspecting completed crates to ensure quality, durability, and workmanship standards are met.
- Maintaining an organized work area and ensuring tools and materials are properly stored.
Qualifications
- Experience in a plant or manufacturing environment considered an asset.
- Experience working with wood, lumber, carpentry, framing, crate construction, or similar trades considered an asset.
- Strong proficiency using a tape measure.
- Demonstrated mathematical skills related to measurements, dimensions, and material calculation.
- Experience using hand, air and power tools.
- Strong attention to details and pride in craftsmanship.
- Flexibility and adaptability to work on a wide variety of tasks.
- Strong safety awareness and sound judgment.
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Commitment to maintaining a safe, respectful, and productive work environment.
