Development Manager
Vancouver, BC
$105,000 - $130,000
DMC Recruitment Group is pleased to partner with our client, a respected organization in the Indigenous Economic Development industry, located in Metro Vancouver, British Columbia, in the search for a Development Manager.
THE OPPORTUNITY
In this role, you will take active ownership of multiple development projects at various stages simultaneously. You will lead internal and external project teams, coordinate consultants, manage timelines, and maintain financial accountability across your portfolio. You will represent the organization directly with municipal staff, elected officials, and partner agencies, making your communication skills and professional credibility an important part of every project's success.
Day to day, you will be building and managing pro formas, preparing feasibility studies, tracking budgets alongside the Finance team, and producing clear project performance reports for leadership. You will manage procurement, review consultant and contractor proposals, and prepare the agreements that keep projects on track legally and financially.
Equally important, you will help maintain the organization's knowledge of the evolving regulatory landscape, including bylaw changes, permitting requirements, and development regulations across the region. You will also play a role in supporting external business development opportunities, working with non-profits, government bodies, and private partners to expand the organization's reach and capacity.
The role is hybrid, with a minimum of three days per week in the office. It offers the flexibility needed for a project-based role while keeping you connected to the team and leadership as projects evolve.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING
You are an experienced real estate development professional who is comfortable managing complexity and working with both the technical and human sides of a project. You know how to move things forward in ambiguous environments and you understand that real estate development is as much about relationships as it is about spreadsheets.
Candidates should bring:
- Minimum 5 to 7 years of experience in land development, planning, or a related construction or real estate environment
- A degree or diploma in urban planning, real estate development, marketing, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
- Solid working knowledge of municipal approval and permitting processes across Metro Vancouver
- Experience preparing and managing development pro formas, business plans, and feasibility studies
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines without dropping the ball
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and comfort representing an organization in external meetings
- Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
Considered strong assets:
- Previous experience with BC Housing, CMHC, or other social purpose or non-profit development projects
- Familiarity with innovative construction methods, including mass timber, modular, or prefabricated building systems
- Experience working with or for First Nations organizations or communities
- Working knowledge of Revit or Bluebeam
- A valid BC Driver's License
WHY THIS ROLE STANDS OUT
The organization behind this role is a values-driven development company formed to create economic opportunity and long-term prosperity for three distinct First Nations communities. The work here carries weight. The projects are real, the timelines are meaningful, and the outcomes matter to people.
You will work directly with senior leadership with genuine visibility into strategic decisions as the organization grows. This is not a role buried in a large corporate structure. Your ideas, your initiative, and your expertise will be seen and valued. There is real opportunity to help shape processes, contribute to strategic planning, and grow professionally as the organization's portfolio expands.
The compensation package is competitive and the working environment reflects a culture that values people. Benefits include enhanced health and dental coverage, generous vacation and paid time off, a professional development allowance, and wellness programming. Hybrid flexibility means you can do your best work whether that is in the office or at home.
For a development professional who is motivated by more than the next project handoff, this is an opportunity to do work that lasts.
