The City of Courtenay invites applications for the position of "Aquatic Fitness Instructor”.
Aquafit Instructors are responsible for delivering high-quality, engaging, and safe aquatic fitness classes that meet the needs of participants across a range of ages and abilities.

Develop group aquatic fitness plans and demonstrate effective leadership while conducting classes.

Provide supervision and clear instructions to participants.

Foster an inclusive and welcoming environment during classes.

Deliver outstanding customer service and maintain effective communication.

Adhere to the City’s guidelines, policies, and procedures.

Inspect equipment regularly and report any issues promptly.

BCRPA Aquatic fitness instructor certification or an equivalent certification.

Emergency First Aid and CPR-C

Criminal Records Check with vulnerable sector

Previous experience in a similar role.

Experience in customer service, recreation, human/social services or in a leadership role is preferred.

Knowledge of current industry standards for safe exercise design, progressive overload, and injury prevention

Conflict resolution and problem-solving skills

Familiarity with aquatic risk management practices, and emergency response procedure

Physical abilities to lift and carry equipment up to 45lbs

Ability to work independently and reliably, managing class setup, equipment storage, and administrative tasks with minimal supervision

The current hourly wage range is $30.00 to $40.00 + 12.4% in lieu. Successful candidates will be required to work varying shifts, including Monday, Wednesday, and Friday – June 1 to June 28 from 8:45 am to 9:30 am; Monday, Wednesday, and Friday – June 29 to August 28 from 12:15 pm am to 1:00 pm.
