Sunday Caregiver Position for ALS Patient
Location: Esquimalt
Private family, direct hire, CSIL funded - Community Support for Independent Living
Seeking an experienced, compassionate, energetic, and positive caregiver or home support person for a 66 year old living with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis). He is married, active and social, with a good sense of humour. He loves sports and volunteers with the homeless.
HCS or LPN certification required. Genuine, current, hands on experience with feeding tubes and lift transfers is essential. This is not a training position. Please only apply if you can speak in detail about this experience.
You will at times be the sole caregiver on shift. You should feel comfortable managing the day and using good judgment without direct supervision. A valid driver's licence is required for outings.
Responsibilities:
- Personal care: showering, dressing, grooming, toileting, G tube, lifts
- Physical exercises as directed
- Medication management as directed
- Preparing meals
- Light housekeeping to help maintain a clean and organized home
- Hanging out and assisting him with things he loves and wants to do (driver's licence an advantage)
- Assisting with technology management as needed
Qualifications:
- LPN or certified Health Care Support worker preferred
- Good communication skills with a respectful way of relating
- Reliable and punctual, with a strong work ethic
- Excellent organizational and time management abilities
- Able to maintain a high level of confidentiality
- Driver's License
- Criminal record check and up-to-date COVID-19 vaccinations required
