ABOUT US:
QCL is a luxury fishing resort set in a protected harbor at the northern end of Haida Gwaii. We pride ourselves in the comfort, friendliness, and platinum standard services we provide, and are interested in crew that share this paradigm. Our summer season begins late May, running until mid-September.
All crew are provided with pre/post season return travel from Vancouver to Haida Gwaii, meals, a staff lounge and gym facility, shared accommodations, quality uniforms and the opportunity to fish throughout the season.
Roles Include:
MARINE MECHANIC
Tasked with keeping our boat fleet in top form, the Marine Tech Team is skilled in their abilities and are passionate about what they do. Each day presents differently, requiring much adaptability – with pre-season prep, on season maintenance and ending with post-season rig down.
- Working with the Marine Operations Team to ensure our fleet of boats are operating in top shape
- Diagnosing, repairing and regular maintenance of mercury outboard engines
- Perform routine and preventive maintenance including oil changes and tune-ups
- Preseason rigging of engines, and post season rig down
- Troubleshooting various marine electrical systems including wiring, depth sounders, stereos, and electronic equipment installation
- Painting, wrapping, decaling boats
- Promoting a clean and safe work environment, while following company guidelines and protocols
- Maintain accurate work order and warranty records
- Test drive boats to confirm safe and proper operation
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Extensive knowledge of all aspects of gasoline engine repairs
- Excellent mechanical repair skills
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to read service and repair manuals
- Proficient with computer diagnostic equipment and software
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- 2+ years working with marine engines and equipment required
- SVOP may be required
- Vocational/technical school program or apprenticeship in auto repair or related field considered an asset
- Previous outboard motor experience is not required if you are a qualified auto-mechanic
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to bend, stretch Kneel and squat to perform repairs and inspections
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds at times
