As a Patient Information Float Clerk, you will frequently be the first point of contact when patients and families arrive to the unit. You will provide service in a customer-focused manner. You will facilitate the delivery of patient care by providing a high level of support and assistance to patient cluster staff and patients/families. You will also support the operation of the team/department by providing clerical and administrative functions in a proactive, organized manner. You will be responsible for ensuring that information is complete, accurate, accessible, and protected. You will assist with patient registration/admissions/discharges, ensure thorough communication, manage documents, equipment, and supplies, and provide well-rounded customer service. In your role, as a float clerk, you will responsible and trained to float to inpatient areas and ambulatory areas.
All float clerks will need to be flexible in floating to multiple areas of the hospital in a given shift (e.g., 2 hours in ED, 2 hours in ICU, 4 hours in administrative coordinator work, etc.). Hours LD = 07:00 to 19:00, Eve = 15:00 to 23:00 and SN = 23:00 to 07:00.
Here's What You'll Get to Do
- Greet patients and families, and assist in meeting their needs when appropriate
- Schedule and coordinate appointments and meetings
- Organize and maintain patient charts, as well as electronic and paper information filing systems
- Maintain electronic calendar/schedules
- Coordinate unit administrative functions to ensure efficient operation of the unit, within scope of authority
- Prepare requisitions
- Provide clerical support to all health care staff
- Perform other duties as assigned

- Knowledge of Medical Terminology
- Basic proficiency with computers (i.e. word processing)
- Strong communication, interpersonal and organization skills

- Demonstrated commitment and actions in advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion objectives
- MUST be available to work all kinds of shifts and be flexible to work weekends, and Stat Holidays.
- Diploma from a recognized Medical Administration program is preferred
- Training and experience with patient registration systems, such as Epic, is preferred
