SUMMARY:
Piikani Child and Family Services is seeking a caring and compassionate Outreach Support
Worker who is committed to supporting the well-being of Piikani families. Reporting to the
Outreach Supervisor, this role focuses on building trusting relationships, visiting families in
their homes, and connecting them to the supports, resources, and services they need. This
role is all about meeting families where they are and walking alongside them with respect
and compassion. The Outreach Support Worker plays an important role in strengthening
family systems, promoting wellness, and ensuring families feel supported within their own
community.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
This role will be focused on field visits to families' homes, community centers, and partner
organizations. The Outreach Support Worker may encounter emotionally charged
situations and should be prepared to handle these sensitively and professionally.
This is a one-year term position. This position is based in Brocket AB., with the regular
working hours of 8:00 AM-4:00 PM Monday-Friday, with some weekend and evening work
required. The hourly wage for this position is $28/hr. A full benefits package is available
upon successful completion of the 90-day probationary period.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
▪ Engage with members of the community to build trust, establish rapport, and
understand their unique needs and challenges.
▪ Conduct assessments to identify the strengths, resources, and support networks of
families, while also identifying areas where additional assistance is required.
▪ Provide In-Home support through home visits, offering Home Management
Guidance, Family Scheduling, Life Skills and Home Maintenance
▪ Collaborate with social workers, elders and other professionals to ensure a
coordinated and holistic approach to supporting families.
▪ Provide information, education, and referrals to community resources and services,
including housing, healthcare, education, employment, and legal assistance.
▪ Assist families in implementing personalized plans to address their specific goals
and needs, promoting self-sufficiency and resilience.
▪ Provide transportation to families for appointments, programs and events as part of
their Empowerment Plan
▪ Facilitate workshops and sessions to provide information on topics such as
parenting skills, budgeting, job readiness, and accessing social services.
▪ Offer crisis intervention and emotional support to families in times of immediate
need, connecting them with appropriate resources.
▪ Maintain accurate and organized records within the Prevention Database,
documenting interactions, services provided, and progress made by families.
▪ Collaborate with community organizations, schools, and other agencies to establish
partnerships that enhance the support available to families.
▪ Stay informed about relevant community trends, resources, and social services to
provide up-to-date and relevant assistance to families.
▪ Attend regular team meetings, training sessions, and case conferences to contribute
to collaborative care planning.
▪ Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards in all interactions
with children, families, and colleagues.
▪ Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED/PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
▪ Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, or a related field. Previous
experience and/or a Diploma in community outreach, social work, or a related role
will be considered
▪ Strong understanding of family dynamics, community resources, and social services.
▪ Excellent communication skills to engage effectively with diverse families and
individuals.
▪ Empathetic and nonjudgmental approach to working with families facing various
challenges.
▪ Ability to assess needs, develop action plans, and connect families with appropriate
resources.
▪ Knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and ethical considerations related to child
welfare and community support.
▪ Strong organizational skills for maintaining accurate and detailed case records.
▪ Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary
team.
▪ Cultural competence and the ability to adapt outreach strategies to various cultural
contexts.
▪ Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for conducting home visits and
attending community meetings are required
▪ A clear driver's abstract is required to be added to the fleet after successful
completion of 90-day probation.
▪ Criminal Record Check and Child Intervention Check is required.
▪ Proficiency in computer skills, including Microsoft Office and case management
software.
▪ Knowledge of the Piikani community is a requirement in this role.
