Field Technician – Data Center Installation & Deployment
Position Summary: The Field Technician is responsible for the installation, deployment, and maintenance of data center infrastructure and IT hardware within customer environments. This role performs rack-and-stack activities, structured cabling, hardware installations, equipment audits, and break/fix services while adhering to customer requirements, industry standards, and company quality procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Receive, unpack, inspect, and stage equipment for deployment within data center environments. Safely move, position, and install enterprise IT equipment, including large servers, storage systems, and network hardware, utilizing team-lift procedures, material handling equipment, and established safety protocols.
- Install, route, label, and dress copper and fiber-optic cabling according to customer and industry standards.
- Perform equipment mounting, rack assembly, rail kit installation, and cable management.Conduct hardware moves, adds, changes, and decommissions (MACD activities).Verify equipment installation against engineering drawings, rack elevations, and deployment documentation.
- Perform physical layer testing, connectivity verification, and post-installation validation.Execute hardware replacement and break/fix activities on servers, storage, and network equipment.
- Troubleshoot hardware, cabling, and connectivity issues and escalate to vendors or technical support teams when required.
- Maintain accurate records of installed equipment, asset tags, serial numbers, and deployment activities.
- Complete installation reports, checklists, work orders, and customer documentation in a timely manner.
- Follow established safety procedures, site access requirements, and data center operational policies.
- Support inventory management, equipment audits, and asset tracking activities.
- Provide professional customer service while working independently or as part of a deployment team.
- Travel to customer locations and data centers as required.
