Position Summary
This is a rare opportunity to step into a senior coaching role with real influence. You’ll own the technical direction of the entire club — not just one squad — and work alongside a General Manager and Board who are genuinely invested in getting this right. The Head Coach will also play a key role in developing and growing Nose Creek Shark School (NCSS), our non-competitive learn-to-swim program and the primary feeder into NCSA. Alignment between NCSS and NCSA is essential, and you’ll be expected to build and maintain that bridge. If you believe high performance is built from the ground up and want to lead a club that shares that belief, we want to hear from you.
Job Duties:
Performance Leadership & Athlete Development
-Set the technical direction for every program stream, from learn-to-train through to high performance
-Build benchmarks and progression pathways that give athletes and coaches clarity at every stage
-Weave mental skills into daily coaching — goal setting, focus, resilience, and competitive readiness
-Take the deck for senior and performance groups, leading by example every session
-Stay visible and present across all programs — your presence sets the tone
-Champion athlete wellbeing and long-term development, not just short-term results
Program Design & Competition Planning
-Design smart, periodized training plans that prepare athletes to peak when it counts
-Build competition schedules that serve development, not just the results board
-Use data and your coaching eye to continuously sharpen what the club delivers
-Embrace multi-sport athletes and build pathways that keep kids in the sport longer
Coaching Staff Leadership
-Recruit, mentor, and retain coaches who share your standards and your values
-Give your coaching team clear roles, expectations, and the tools to grow
-Build a staff culture where learning, accountability, and collaboration are the norm
-Invest in your coaches the same way you invest in your athletes
Strategic & Organizational Leadership
-Be the voice of technical truth to the GM and Board — they’re listening
-Shape how resources are allocated to reflect what actually drives performance
-Communicate your vision clearly and consistently — athletes, parents, and staff all aligned
-Model Safe Sport from the top — your conduct sets the standard for the whole club
Qualifications & Experience
-Significant experience as a competitive swim coach, with a track record of athlete and coach development
-NCCP Swim Coaching Certification (minimum Level 2; Level 3 preferred)
-Standard First Aid and CPR-C (or commitment to obtain before your start date)
-Deep knowledge of LTAD and a coaching practice grounded in evidence, not habit
-Demonstrated ability to lead people — athletes and coaches alike
-Strong communicator who can connect with athletes, parents, staff, and leadership
-Current certification in good standing with Swimming Canada
-Solid working knowledge of Swim Alberta and Swimming Canada
-A genuine, lived commitment to Safe Sport and athlete-centred coaching
-Successful completion of an Enhanced Police Information Check (E-PIC) and Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) upon hire
Compensation & Benefits
-Salary commensurate with experience
-Professional development opportunities
-Health Spending Account, Travel Expenses
