Position Overview
VGS Contracting is seeking an experienced General Superintendent to oversee field operations across multiple projects and crews. This position is responsible for planning work, supporting field leadership, coordinating resources, driving productivity, and ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and profitably.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys building teams, and takes ownership of results.
Responsibilities
- Lead and support Foremen, Superintendents, Operators, and field crews
- Develop and maintain weekly and daily work plans for active projects
- Coordinate manpower, equipment, subcontractors, and materials across projects
- Monitor project schedules and adjust resources to maintain production targets
- Work closely with Project Managers and Estimators to ensure smooth project execution
- Identify risks, constraints, and productivity issues before they impact the project
- Ensure crews are working safely and maintaining company standards
- Participate in project kickoff meetings, progress meetings, and client meetings
- Assist with hiring, mentoring, coaching, and performance management of field staff
- Support cost control by monitoring labour, production, and equipment utilization
- Ensure quality control and project documentation standards are maintained
Qualifications
- 10+ years experience in civil construction, excavation, utilities, or heavy construction
- Previous experience managing multiple crews and projects simultaneously
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Ability to read drawings, schedules, and specifications
- Understanding of civil construction means and methods
- Experience with earthworks, underground utilities, roadworks, or infrastructure projects considered an asset
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites
Preferred Experience
- Experience with GPS machine control environments (Topcon experience an asset)
- Experience working around utilities, environmental projects, or infrastructure clients
- Strong scheduling and manpower planning abilities
- Comfortable using technology for communication and reporting

Pay: $100,000.00-$135,000.00 per year
