Overview
The Financial Controller is responsible for the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of financial operations across a diversified group of entities, including not-for-profit, holding, and operating companies in Canada and the United States. This role leads all day-to-day accounting, financial reporting, and financial planning processes, ensuring strong controls, consistent practices, and reliable information to support decision-making and organizational growth. The Controller partners closely with the CFO to translate strategic direction into effective financial execution.
Duties
- Lead and manage month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes across all entities
- Prepare and consolidate financial statements
- Ensure accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of all financial reporting
- Deliver variance analysis and insights to support leadership decision-making
- Oversee all accounting functions (GL, AP, AR)
- Manage intercompany transactions and reconciliations across entities
- Standardize accounting policies and procedures across the organization
- Ensure consistent application of accounting practices
- Lead the annual budgeting and forecasting processes across all business units
- Collaborate and support functional business leaders with reporting, data and information
- Develop and maintain financial models supporting planning activities
- Monitor performance against budget and provide regular variance reporting
- Ensure financial plans align with strategic priorities set by the CFO and management team
- Coordinate tax filings and compliance requirements across Canada and the United States
- Support external audits and regulatory requirements, including not-for-profit considerations
- Maintain and strengthen internal controls and financial policies
- Support risk management processes in partnership with the CFO
- Own and optimize day-to-day use of ERP and financial systems
- Ensure financial data integrity across systems
- Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and scalability
- Ensure consistency and reliability of financial and operational data
- Mentor and support development of finance team members (if applicable)
- Act as a designated backup for payroll processing
- Occasional travel may be required (approximately 5%)
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or a related field; CPA required
- 5–10+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience
- Experience with multi-entity organizations; cross-border exposure (Canada/US) is an assset
- Strong understanding of financial reporting, controls, and compliance
- Advanced Excel and ERP/system experience
- High attention to detail with strong organizational and process discipline
- Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines

The posted pay range reflects the anticipated compensation for this role; however, final salary will be determined based on the successful candidate’s qualifications, experience, and relevant skills.
Pay: $95,000.00-$120,000.00 per year
