Fernhill Fencing Inc. is looking for an experienced Crew Lead to join our team full-time in the London, Ontario area.
This is a leadership position for someone who knows how to build quality fences and gates, can manage a small crew, and takes pride in doing work properly. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading 2–3 team members on job sites, keeping projects organized, maintaining high workmanship standards, and representing the company professionally with customers.
We are looking for someone dependable, responsible, and skilled — someone who can lead by example and help the crew get the job done safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.
What You’ll Be Doing
As a Crew Lead, you will be responsible for:
- Leading and managing a small crew of 2–3 people
- Building wood fences, privacy fences, chain link fences, and gates
- Constructing and installing gates properly, including hardware and adjustments
- Reading job notes, layouts, measurements, drawings, and site instructions
- Setting posts, installing rails, boards, hardware, and finishing details
- Operating tools and equipment such as saws, lasers, augers, and mini skid steers
- Communicating clearly with management about job progress, issues, materials, and scheduling
- Communicating professionally with customers on site
- Training, guiding, and supporting crew members
- Maintaining a clean, organized, and safe job site
- Ensuring tools, trucks, trailers, and equipment are used and cared for properly
- Helping with decks, sheds, outdoor structures, and interior renovation work during the off-season/winter months
What We’re Looking For:
We are especially looking for someone with a steady, level-headed approach to leadership. The right person does not get rattled when things change on site, handles unexpected problems calmly, and keeps the crew moving in the right direction.
This role is best suited for someone who takes ownership, thinks ahead, protects the company’s interests, and can be trusted to make good decisions without constant supervision. We want someone who is easy to work with, respectful with customers and crew members, and able to bring a calm, professional presence to the job site.
The ideal candidate will have:
- 3–5 years minimum fence installation or similar experience
- Strong experience building and installing gates
- Leadership experience preferred
- Ability to manage and motivate a small crew
- Valid G driver’s licence
- Experience operating mini skid steers, saws, lasers, augers, and general construction tools
- Strong problem-solving skills on site
- Good communication skills
- A responsible and reliable attitude
- Strong attention to detail
- Pride in workmanship
- Ability to work outdoors in a physically demanding role
The ideal candidate is someone who:
- Stays calm when plans change or problems come up
- Has a steady, “get it done properly” attitude
- Takes ownership of the job without needing constant direction
- Looks out for the company, the customer, and the crew
- Communicates issues early instead of letting them become bigger problems
- Leads by example rather than by ego
- Is easy to get along with and respectful on site
- Makes practical decisions and uses good judgment
What We Offer
- $28–$38 per hour, depending on experience
- Full-time, year-round work
- Health Spending Account
