Position Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated and mechanically inclined Butter-maker to join our production team at Alliston Creamery. This role is responsible for the setup, operation, and dismantling of production and packaging equipment, ensuring efficient, safe, and consistent processing of our dairy products.
Key Responsibilities
Butter Production
- Produce butter and related dairy products according to established recipes, specifications, and production schedules.
- Operate butter churns, butter-working equipment, pumps, tanks, and related production machinery.
- Manufacture specialty products including flavoured, cultured, grass-fed, organic, and custom customer formulations as required.
- Monitor product quality throughout production and make adjustments as necessary to meet specifications.
- Ensure proper salt addition, moisture control, fat testing, and batch consistency.
Quality Control & Testing
- Perform butterfat and quality testing on production batches.
- Verify product specifications and ensure compliance with customer requirements.
- Identify and report quality concerns or process deviations immediately.
- Assist with product traceability and inventory control procedures.
Food Safety & Documentation
- Complete all production records accurately and legibly.
- Maintain butter-make sheets, batch records, production logs, and food safety documentation.
- Follow all HACCP, BRCGS, GMP, and food safety requirements.
- Participate in internal, customer, and regulatory audits.
Sanitation & Equipment Care
- Complete cleaning and sanitation of churns, tanks, butter boats, piping, floors, walls, and production equipment according to established procedures.
- Conduct pre-operational inspections before production begins.
- Report equipment concerns and assist with troubleshooting as required.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
Team Support
- Work closely with production, packaging, shipping, and quality teams to ensure efficient operations.
- Assist with training and supporting other production staff as required.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and process enhancements.
- Perform other reasonable duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications
- Experience in food manufacturing, dairy manufacturing, or industrial production preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to product quality.
- Ability to follow recipes, specifications, and written procedures accurately.
- Comfortable completing production records and documentation.
- Mechanical aptitude and ability to operate manufacturing equipment safely.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Forklift experience considered an asset.
- HACCP, GMP, or food safety experience considered an asset.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 25 kg (55 lbs) on a regular basis.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and work in a production environment for extended periods.
- Ability to work in varying temperatures common to food manufacturing facilities.

Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Previous experience in a dairy, food, or manufacturing environment is an asset
- Mechanical aptitude with the ability to identify and troubleshoot basic equipment issues
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and food safety
- Ability to work effectively in a team-based environment
- Good communication skills
