Job Description:
The Meadow Lake Librarian is responsible for organizing and supervising all activities at the Meadow Lake Library. This employee works with the Library Director, management team, and Meadow Lake Board of Trustees to implement goals and procedures for the library. The Meadow Lake Librarian acts as the professional resource person for the staff and patrons at the Meadow Lake Library.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible to the Library Director for all aspects of operations at the library branch
- Responsible to the Meadow Lake Library Board for the maintenance of the library building, the quality of library programming, and the hours of operations
- Participates in the hiring of staff for the library branch
- Supervises all staff at the library branch and performs annual staff evaluations
- Participates in collection development for the library branch, and monitors related budgets
- Works with community organizations and institutions to meet specific needs
- Compiles reports and statistics
- Acts as Secretary to the Meadow Lake Library Board, and monitors related budgets
- Works with the Library Director and management team in implementing the goals of the Lakeland Library Region
- Other duties as assigned by the Library Director
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:
- Knowledge of collections development principles and procedures
- Knowledge of integrated library systems (especially Polaris)
- Knowledge of library procedures, principles and techniques
- Experience supervising staff, preferably in a unionized environment
- Experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks
- Excellent communications skills
- Demonstrated ability to organize and plan effectively
- Experience working with a library board is an asset
Education/Training:
- Library technology diploma or equivalent, or related experience
- Experience working as a librarian, preferably in a public library
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift, carry or move library materials weighing 5 – 15 kilograms on a regular basis
- Ability to reach a range of shelves between 5 cm and 200 cm above floor
Other Requirements:
- Criminal Record Check
- Valid Saskatchewan Drivers Licence
Hours of Work:
- 37.5 hours/week – some evenings and weekends required.
- Continuing employment will require some weekend shifts.
Compensation:
- Starts at $26.00/h and includes comprehensive benefits package.
