The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) is the largest trade union that represents behind-the-scenes entertainment workers in the United States and Canada.
IATSE seeks an experienced and skilled Canadian Communications & Government Relations Coordinator to work collaboratively across the Communications Department and the Canadian Affairs Departments, carrying out strategic communications work while supporting the union’s Canadian political, legislative, and public affairs efforts.
This position reports to the Director of the Canadian Affairs Department, maintains close coordination with the Director of Communications, Canadian staff and officers, and IATSE Local Unions across Canada. This position requires the ability to work in both English and French. The IATSE Canadian Office is located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
Description of Duties (including but not limited to)
- Research, write, and produce communications for Canadian members;
- Draft and support political and legislative communications;
- Prepare briefing notes and talking points;
- Coordinate Canadian communications with IATSE messaging;
- Support election and advocacy campaign communications;
- Manage Canadian web, email, and social media content;
- Liaise with Canadian Local Unions;
- Assist with press releases and media responses;
- Monitor Canadian political and legislative developments;
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Will consider hybrid or remote work scenarios
Job Qualifications
Experience & Education Requirements:
- Minimum 3 years’ relevant experience;
- Labour, political, or advocacy experience preferred;
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience;
- Professional proficiency in English and French.
Skills Requirements:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- High attention to detail;
- Ability to translate policy into member communications;
- Digital communications experience;
- Ability to travel within Canada;
- Ability to work extended hours when required.
Compensation
Salary:
- Compensation for this position begins at $96,400 annually, with the potential for adjustment based on the candidate’s qualifications, experience, and demonstrated expertise.
