Key Responsibilities:
- Read and interpret blueprints, mechanical drawings, specifications, and work orders.
- Install residential and commercial ductwork, trunk lines, branch lines, fittings, take-offs, dampers, grilles, diffusers, and registers.
- Install and connect furnaces, HRVs/ERVs, humidifiers, fresh air systems, exhaust fans, range hood ducts, dryer vents, and ventilation equipment.
- Measure, cut, fabricate, assemble, and install sheet metal ductwork according to drawings and site conditions.
- Complete furnace rough-ins, basement runs, main floor and upper floor duct installations.
- Install and interlock fresh air dampers, furnace controls, thermostats, and basic low-voltage HVAC components as required.
- Perform HVAC rough-in, final installation, deficiency repairs, and service work.
- Ensure all work complies with Alberta Building Code, mechanical code requirements, safety standards, and company quality standards.
- Coordinate with site supervisors, builders, inspectors, and other trades.
- Maintain clean and organized work areas.
- Keep accurate records of completed work, materials used, deficiencies, and site issues.
- Lead apprentices or helpers when required.
- Follow all company safety policies, toolbox meetings, FLHA requirements, and PPE rules.
Required Qualifications:
- Journeyman Sheet Metal Worker certification preferred.
- HVAC installation experience required.
- Experience in residential, multifamily, and/or commercial HVAC work.
- Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings.
- Strong knowledge of duct installation, ventilation systems, furnaces, HRVs, exhaust systems, and fresh air systems.
- Valid driver’s licence.
- Own basic hand tools and required sheet metal tools.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a crew.
- Strong attention to detail and quality workmanship.
- Good communication and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience with new home construction, duplexes, townhomes, apartments, and commercial tenant improvements.
- Experience installing HRV/ERV systems, Hoyme dampers, furnace interlocks, zoning systems, and humidifiers.
- Ability to lay out ductwork from drawings and adjust for site conditions.
- Experience leading apprentices or small crews.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift materials and equipment.
- Comfortable working in basements, mechanical rooms, ceilings, attics, and construction sites.
- Ability to use ladders, power tools, and sheet metal equipment safely.
- Able to work in varying site and weather conditions.
