Job Description – Elders Program Coordinator
GENERAL:
Under the Supervision of the Executive Director, of the Cariboo Friendship Society, the Program Coordinator will be responsible for planning and facilitating activities for community elders. This program has been developed to encourage and promote social interaction for elders, reduce the risk of social isolation and increase awareness of elder health and wellness.
DUTIES:
· Develop and deliver programs that are culturally appropriate and promote healthy lifestyles and that meet the physical, emotional, intellectual and social needs of elders in the program;
· Facilitate presentations on health issues such as diabetes awareness, high blood pressure, exercise, and diet, that promote and encourage elders to maintain an optimum level of health, well-being and self-esteem;
· Develop a community kitchen for elders;
· Referral and support services;
· Gathering of traditional medicines, berries, and fruits in and around Williams Lake and outlying communities;
· Plan, implement and supervise activities;
· Provide nutritious snacks and lunches during program activities;
· Developing daily activity plans and provide weekly and monthly schedules of activities;
· Recording of statistics and information as required by Society
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Human Services Certificate, health care experience and or related educational experience
2. Leadership, organization, and communication skills
3. Previous experience working with elders would be an asset
4. Good working knowledge of Canada’s Food Guide
5. Must be able to work effectively with minimum supervision
6. Must have experience with program implementation
7. Background and knowledge of craft and recreational activities
8. Must be willing to submit to a criminal record review
9. Must communicate effectively in English, both verbally and written
9. Must maintain professional conduct and abide by the Cariboo Friendship Society’s Code of Ethics
10. Must have knowledge and understanding of local Indigenous cultures and the ability to follow protocols within the Indigenous communities
11. A valid class 4 and a class 5 Drivers License would be an asset as providing transportation maybe necessary
Pay: $20.00-$22.00 per hour
