Southside Processing Inc. is a custom seafood processing facility currently seeking a full-time QC technician. The ideal candidate is highly motivated, experienced, and detail-oriented.
This position is responsible for close monitoring of the manufacturing process, sanitation, employee hygiene and maintenance programs. This position ensures compliance to current GMPs and is responsible for maintaining all food safety regulations. This position will report directly to the Quality Assurance Manager.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for coaching daily employee hygiene and sanitation programs.
- Responsible for knowing and ensuring all Procedure Descriptions, SOPs, and Sanitation and Allergen Programs are distributed to pertinent supervisors and personnel.
- Responsible for setting, checking, maintaining, monitoring and instituting Corrective Actions as required and entering all CAs into the Corrective Action Log.
- Responsible for training and monitoring all employees to comply with Preventative Control Plan (PCP) and Food Safety Program.
- Responsible for enforcing general plant rules, GMPs, and health and safety policies within the plant. Including but not limited to: monitoring production crew as they enter the plant to ensure they wash hands, are properly outfitted (hair net, beard net, no jewelry), no food, etc.
- Responsible for quality control activities on the premises and completing forms.
- Provides continuous visual monitoring of the plant environment, cleaning and sanitation.
- Ensure common areas such as washrooms, lunch room, and change rooms have all needed supplies and have been properly cleaned and sanitized by the cleaner daily.
- Record and document all cleaning activities and inspections.
- Know the different chemicals (MSDS) used and follow proper procedure needed to use them effectively and safely. Must be able to train cleaners how to use chemicals safely.
- Record an inventory of all chemicals and employees’ PPE for the purchaser.
- Performs training documents, scale, and thermometer calibrations.
- Performs frequent scale and thermometer checks as per PCP schedule.
- Responsible for completing sanitation forms.
- Inspect incoming processing product and packaging.
- Review labels and raw material documentation prior to their release into inventory.
- May assist to conduct lab tests as requiring by PCP plan.
- May assist with research and development of new products.
Knowledge and Skills
- Post-secondary education, such as successful completion of BCIT Food Technology Diploma or sanitation courses or relevant experience.
- Prior experience working in a Food Manufacturing environment will be given priority consideration.
- Previous experience with CFIA regulations an asset; must be HACCP-proficient.
- Strongly organized analytical thinker with ability to maintain keen attention to detail.
- Capable of preparing reports.
- Must be in good physical condition and able to lift 50 lb.
Pay: $21.00-$30.00 per hour
