Position overview:
We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our team as an adaptive paddling assistant for the summer season. The Adaptive Paddling Assistant will support the delivery of adaptive paddling programs while gaining valuable experience in recreation, accessibility, marketing, administration, and community engagement. The successful candidate will work closely with participants, volunteers, instructors, and community partners to help create meaningful and inclusive recreation experiences and strengthen our programs.
On Site Tasks:approximately 20 hours/week
- Welcome clients and ensure all forms have been completed correctly (registration, waiver, covid protocol compliance)
- Responsible for maintaining records of clients, caregivers, volunteers and instructors.
- Assist instructors and volunteers in preparing suitable boats and safety equipment. Attend and participate in all paddle sessions.
- Assisting volunteers and instructors by physically moving boats and equipment.
- Maintenance of boats and equipment - e.g. sanitation of boats, paddles PFD’s and other equipment
- Learn and develop personal safe and confident kayak skills
- Post-paddling Survey - encourage and record clients/volunteers/instructor suggestions and/or recommendations
- Foster an inclusive, positive and welcoming environment for all participants
Marketing Tasks: approximately 15 hours/week
- Take pictures of daily events and post approved content on twitter, facebook, and instagram
- Share suggestions and participate in the planning of a community regatta and HATW event.
- Assist in preparing a list of potential sponsors for our annual HATW fundraiser. Review and suggest additional marketing material.
- Other marketing duties assigned by the Marketing team
Qualifications:
- Ability to work respectfully and effectively with individuals of diverse abilities, disabilities, and support needs
- Comfortable supporting participants with a variety of physical, developmental, intellectual, sensory, and behavioural needs
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
- Ability to remain calm and respond appropriately in challenging or unexpected situations - Paddling experience is an asset, but not a requirement
- Working with individuals with disabilities is an asset, but not a requirement - Experience working with social media, graphic design, or marketing is an asset but not a requirement
