Reporting directly to the Director, Information Technology - Infrastructure, the Manager, Technical Services has primary responsibility to plan, organize, direct, and function as a manager over technical support staff in all functional areas Unity Health Toronto’s data centre and cloud environment. The Manager has responsibility for Unity Health Toronto’s Active Directory, messaging, physical and virtual servers, Storage Area Network (SAN), file shares, Citrix, Microsoft 365, Entra, Azure, and backup systems. The Manager also has responsibility for proposing, assessing, planning and designing new technology solutions. This management role has significant accountability to providing the Hospital’s user community with efficient and effective technical infrastructure services while maintaining user satisfaction.
Summary of Key Responsibilities & Activities:
- Oversees the operation and maintenance of centralized computers engaged in data processing for the hospital by coordinating security, software, system communications, hardware, and related technical consulting;
- Develops and administers requirements for maintaining satisfactory service levels, operation logs, production schedules, and data media performance levels;
- Develops and administers compliance standards for the optimum utilization of all computing software and hardware;
- Oversees the effective utilization of data processing production resources and provides for sufficient flexibility and equipment capacity to meet unscheduled data processing production requirements and test workload; Informs more senior management of projected resource and capacity problems;
- Controls system documentation and ensure production schedules;
- Reviews new and proposed equipment; meets with vendors to discuss product performance resolution of problems, and installation and service requirements; participates in the selection of equipment and service options;
- Estimates resource requirements and costs for maintaining production services; reviews and approves system design and production procedures; plans strategies for requirements for operational resource requirements; evaluates the performance of production resources and prepares reports of results for Senior Management;
- Participates in the resolution of hardware and software and related problems and/or issues;
- Acts as the infrastructure architect to design, propose, build and implement solutions;
- Plans, organizes, coordinates, supervises, and evaluates programs, functions, services, and Technical Services staff;
- Develops and finalizes unit policies and procedures in conjunction with the Director, Information Technology and peer Information Technology managers;
- Develops and administers requirements for maintaining satisfactory service levels, operation logs, production schedules, and data media performance levels.
Overview of Requirements:
- Must have a minimum of an undergraduate university degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or Business Administration coupled with a minimum of 5 years experience managing a complex environment;
- Must have Computer Industry certification (i.e. MCSE, CCNP) required and 2 years project management experience;
- Must have a deep understanding of IT Systems and Data Center Operations
- Must have working knowledge of LAN/WAN technology and current IT and communication technology trends, products and service delivery processes
- Must have highly developed critical/strategic thinking, planning, problem solving, evaluation, negotiation and time management skills
