About the Role
We are excited to begin a new residential waste collection contract in Chilliwack starting May 2026. We are seeking skilled, safety-minded drivers to operate Semi-Automated Side Load (SASL) garbage trucks. This role combines automated collection with manual loading of specific materials, including glass and soft plastics. Drivers in this role play a key part in delivering reliable, efficient, and environmentally responsible residential waste and recycling services while working safely in the community.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate a Semi-Automated Side Load (SASL) residential garbage truck on assigned routes
- Use automated side-load equipment to service residential carts
- Manually load designated materials, including glass and soft plastics, as required by the collection program
- Safely collect, transport, and dispose of residential waste and recyclables in accordance with municipal and company standards
- Perform daily pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections and report maintenance or safety concerns
- Follow all traffic laws, safety regulations, and company policies
- Work safely around pedestrians, parked vehicles, and residential properties
- Represent the company professionally within the community
- Communicate route issues, contamination concerns, or service delays to dispatch or management
- Respond respectfully to resident inquiries when encountered on route
- Maintain accurate driver logs, route sheets, and required documentation
- Report missed stops, blocked access, or cart issues as required
Qualifications
- Valid Class 3 Driver’s License with Air Brake Endorsement (required).
- Clean Driver’s Abstract.
- Minimum 1–2 years of professional driving experience (waste industry or heavy truck experience preferred).
- Ability to work independently and follow scheduled routes.
- Good communication skills and customer service mindset.
- Physically fit to handle the demands of the role (repetitive entry/exit from truck, some lifting for glass and soft plastics collections).
