The Mechanic – Journey Industrial works under the direction of the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor or Designated Foreman/Leading Industrial Mechanic and is responsible for the installation, maintenance and repairs to the large and complex mechanical equipment as assigned.
As the Mechanic – Journey Industrial you will:
- Be responsible for the detailed planning and carrying out mechanical repairs to complex large pump units, compressors, overhead cranes, moving bridge, etc.
- Be responsible for installation of new major mechanical equipment as required for increased plant capacity and/or plant optimization.
- Be responsible for ordering replacement part and equipment as required.
- Be responsible for repairs, replacement and modifications to chlorination and other chemical equipment with the Department.
- Be responsible for keeping records, mechanical drafting changes, etc. of repairs and modifications.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Your education and qualifications include:
- Grade 10 education or the equivalent in experience.
- Five (5) years experience at a tradesman level.
- Must be able to demonstrate training ability and knowledge to function as an experienced Industrial Mechanic.
- Must be familiar with equipment lock out system.
- Must have a thorough familiarity with the basic principles involved in the installation and maintenance of machinery in treatment plants.
- Must have experience in the use of ordinary machine tools and have extensive training in machine shop practice.
- Basic training and experience in gas and electric welding.
- Must be able to set up machinery to close tolerances.
- Must be able to troubleshoot and analyze various and misalignments on moving machinery.
- Must be familiar with installation and servicing of mechanical seals.
- Must be able to read blueprints and draw sketches for modifications and blueprint updates.
- Must be able to interpret vibrations and analyze same on machinery and equipment using available equipment, i.e. vibration analyzers, laser shaft alignment computers, etc.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels of the organization, external contacts such as contractors, other government services, elected officials and the public, in accordance with the Respectful Workplace Standard.

Conditions of employment:
- The successful candidate must maintain legal eligibility to work in Canada. If the successful candidate possesses a work permit, it is their responsibility to ensure the permit remains valid.
- A Police Information Check satisfactory to the employer will be required from the successful candidate, at their expense.
- Must possess Industrial Mechanic’s (Millwright) Inter-provincial Trade Certification with a Red seal.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 Manitoba Driver’s Licence. The successful applicant will be required to provide a driver’s notice in force document upon request.
- Must be physically capable of performing all of the duties of the position in various weather conditions. Will be required to work from scaffolds, ladders, in confined spaces and in hazardous locations, where wearing of self-contained breathing equipment is necessary due to lack of oxygen and/or presence of harmful gases.
