Part-Time Legal Assistant / Law Clerk (Hybrid)
Borderless Immigration Law is a growing boutique law firm focused exclusively on Canadian immigration and refugee law. We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Part-Time Legal Assistant / Law Clerk to join our team.
This is a hybrid position based in Ontario. While much of the work can be performed remotely, the successful candidate must be available to attend our Markham, Ontario office on an occasional basis for training, administrative duties, and client support. Most work is performed remotely, but flexibility to attend the office when required is essential.
We are a fast-paced, high-volume practice looking for someone who thrives in a technology-driven environment, learns quickly, and takes pride in keeping files organized, deadlines on track, and clients well supported.
Responsibilities
- Open and organize new client files.
- Maintain electronic client files and document management systems.
- Monitor correspondence through IRCC, IRB, Federal Court, and other online portals.
- Save and organize incoming correspondence and documents.
- Prepare and submit electronic filings with the Refugee Protection Division (RPD), Refugee Appeal Division (RAD), and Federal Court.
- Monitor filing deadlines, hearing dates, and other important timelines.
- Prepare routine correspondence, forms, and legal documents.
- Maintain calendars and assist with scheduling.
- Provide occasional in-office support for clients attending virtual hearings, including setting up audio-visual equipment and ensuring clients are ready for their hearing.
- Perform other legal administrative duties as required.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent computer skills and the ability to quickly learn new software, online portals, and office systems.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat, Google Drive, Google Calendar, and other cloud-based applications.
- Experience with Clio or other legal practice management software is an asset.
- The ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- A professional, dependable, and positive attitude.
- The ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team.
- The ability to attend the Markham office on an occasional basis when required.
- Previous experience in a legal office is preferred.
- Experience in refugee and immigration law is an asset but is not required.
- Proficiency in Mandarin (spoken and/or written) is an asset.

Compensation
- Part-time hourly position.
- Compensation starting at $20.00 per hour, with pay commensurate with experience and qualifications.
- Flexible hours.
- Opportunity for increased hours, with the potential for the position to transition into a full-time role as the firm continues to grow.
