Overview
We are seeking a vigilant and responsible Traffic Controller to ensure the safe and efficient movement of vehicles and pedestrians at construction sites and roadwork zones. This role is vital for maintaining safety standards during paving, heavy equipment operation, and various construction activities. The ideal candidate will have a keen eye for detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work in dynamic environments. Prior experience in construction or traffic management is a plus but not required; comprehensive training will be provided. Responsibilities
- Direct and control traffic flow around construction zones using appropriate signaling devices and hand signals
- Ensure the safety of workers, motorists, and pedestrians by enforcing traffic control plans
- Set up and maintain traffic control devices such as cones, barriers, signs, and flagging equipment
- Communicate effectively with construction crews, drivers, and pedestrians to coordinate movements and prevent accidents
- Monitor work zones continuously for safety hazards or violations and take corrective actions as needed
- Assist with the operation of heavy equipment when necessary, adhering to all safety protocols
- Support paving operations by managing traffic around paving machinery and materials
Experience
- Prior experience in traffic control, construction, paving, or heavy equipment operation is preferred but not mandatory; training will be provided for all new hires
- Strong understanding of safety procedures related to construction zones and traffic management
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and during different shifts as required
- Excellent communication skills to effectively coordinate with team members and the public
- Valid certification or willingness to obtain necessary traffic control or flagging certifications is advantageous
