Integrity Refrigeration and J&J Refrigeration Inc. are established leaders in commercial and industrial refrigeration, delivering reliable installation, service, and maintenance solutions to clients across the region. As we continue to grow, we're looking for a hands-on Financial Controller to own our finance function across both companies.
The Role
Reporting to CEO, the Financial Controller is responsible for the full accounting cycle, financial reporting, and internal controls for both entities. This is a key leadership position for someone who wants ownership over the numbers and a direct impact on the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including AP, AR, payroll, and general ledger for both companies
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports
- Manage cash flow, budgeting, and forecasting
- Handle job costing and project profitability analysis specific to refrigeration service and installation work
- Oversee month-end and year-end close processes
- Ensure compliance with GST/HST, payroll remittances, WSIB/WCB, and other regulatory filings
- Coordinate with external accountants for year-end and tax preparation
- Develop, implement, and maintain internal controls and financial policies
- Manage banking relationships, financing, and equipment leases
- Provide financial analysis and recommendations to support business decisions
Qualifications
- CPA designation (or working toward) preferred
- 5+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, ideally including a controller or senior accounting role
- Experience in construction, trades, service, or contracting industries strongly preferred (job costing experience an asset)
- Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage) and strong Excel skills
- Solid knowledge of Canadian accounting standards (ASPE) and tax/payroll compliance
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple entities
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently
