COMPENSATION
Mechanic Helper
$20.00 – $25.00 per hour
Compensation will be based on qualifications, experience, performance, and demonstrated ability.
COMPANY OVERVIEW
N&M Tires is a full-service automotive repair and tire service facility providing tire sales and installation, preventative maintenance, vehicle servicing, diagnostics support, and mechanical repair services to customers.
We are seeking dependable, hardworking, and safety-focused Mechanic Helpers to support daily shop operations and assist Automotive Technicians in delivering quality vehicle maintenance and repair services.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Mechanic Helper provides technical and operational support to licensed Automotive Technicians and apprentices by assisting with vehicle maintenance, tire services, parts handling, equipment preparation, shop housekeeping, and general labour activities. The position plays an important role in maintaining productivity, workplace safety, and efficient workshop operations.
The successful candidate must be physically capable of performing demanding tasks in a fast-paced automotive service environment while maintaining a strong commitment to safety, quality, and teamwork.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Technical Support Activities
- Assist Automotive Technicians with vehicle inspections, maintenance procedures, repairs, and service operations.
- Prepare vehicles for service, maintenance, and repair work.
- Retrieve, organize, and transport tools, equipment, and replacement parts.
- Support technicians during removal, installation, and replacement of automotive components.
- Assist with lifting, positioning, and handling tires, wheels, batteries, and vehicle parts.
- Prepare service bays and workstations before and after repairs.
- Maintain an organized workflow to support efficient shop operations.
Tire and Wheel Services
- Assist with tire mounting, balancing, installation, and removal.
- Perform tire rotations and seasonal tire changeovers.
- Inspect tires for visible wear, damage, punctures, and improper inflation.
- Check and adjust tire pressures according to manufacturer specifications.
- Assist with wheel balancing and tire repair procedures.
- Organize and maintain tire storage areas.
Preventive Maintenance Services
- Perform engine oil and filter changes.
- Replace air filters, cabin filters, and wiper blades.
- Check and replenish vehicle fluids including engine oil, coolant, brake fluid, windshield washer fluid, and transmission fluid as directed.
- Lubricate serviceable components according to maintenance schedules.
- Assist with battery inspection, testing, cleaning, and replacement.
- Perform basic maintenance tasks under supervision.
Shop Operations and Material Handling
- Receive, unload, inspect, and organize incoming parts, tires, and supplies.
- Stock, and store inventory in designated locations.
- Transport materials and equipment safely throughout the facility.
- Load and unload delivery vehicles as required.
- Ensure proper storage of tools, equipment, and automotive parts.
Housekeeping and Facility Maintenance
- Clean and maintain service bays, workstations, storage areas, and customer vehicle areas.
- Clean hand tools, power tools, tire equipment, and shop machinery.
- Maintain cleanliness of floors and common areas.
- Ensure compliance with company housekeeping standards.
- Assist in maintaining a safe and organized workplace.
Vehicle Movement and Yard Duties
- Move customer vehicles within the service facility and designated parking areas when authorized.
- Assist with vehicle positioning on service equipment.
- Follow all vehicle handling procedures and company policies.
- Report any vehicle damage or concerns immediately.
HEALTH, SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSIBILITIES

SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES
Employees must:
- Wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including safety boots, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and protective clothing.
- Follow all workplace safety rules and procedures.
- Conduct visual inspections of tools and equipment before use.
- Operate shop equipment only when properly trained and authorized.
- Follow safe lifting and material handling practices.
- Maintain clean and hazard-free work areas.
- Immediately report unsafe conditions, injuries, incidents, near misses, and equipment defects.
- Participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and required training programs.
- Follow emergency response and fire prevention procedures.
ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Employees shall:
- Properly handle used oil, filters, tires, batteries, fluids, and recyclable materials.
- Follow approved waste disposal and recycling procedures.
- Assist in preventing spills and environmental contamination.
- Maintain environmentally responsible work practices.
EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS
Education
- Secondary school completion preferred.
Experience
- Previous automotive service, tire shop, warehouse, or labour experience is considered an asset.
- Experience is beneficial but not required.
- Employer-provided training will be available.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry up to 23 kg (50 lbs).
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Ability to bend, kneel, crouch, climb, and perform repetitive tasks.
- Ability to work safely in a physically demanding environment.
