Overview
Oxford Optometry is a premier, full-scope optometric clinic with three Optometrists, a fashion-forward eyewear boutique, and an in-house lab. We are seeking a versatile Optical Assistant for a dynamic, multi-disciplinary role. This position combines clinic administration, patient-facing frame styling, and technical laboratory support.
Mandatory Requirement: Candidates must possess prior optical industry experience. Applications without relevant optometric clinic or lab experience will not be considered.
Core Responsibilities
Front Desk & Medical Administration
- Patient Reception: Greet patients warmly and manage the daily clinic flow.
- Clinic Operations: Manage scheduling, patient check-ins, and complex health/vision insurance verifications.
- Clinical Support: Assist Optometrists by conducting preliminary patient eye testing and basic clinical procedures.
- Data Management: Utilize clinic software and Excel to update electronic medical records accurately.
Boutique Styling & Dispensing
- Style Consultation: Use a keen eye for fashion to guide patients through our high-end designer frame selection.
- Patient Education: Support and educate patients on custom lens designs, coatings, and contact lenses.
- Measurements: Take precise optical measurements for custom eyewear dispensing.
Technical & Laboratory Operations
- In-House Finishing: Execute multi-step technical procedures to edge, fit, and finish lenses.
- Repairs & Maintenance: Utilize fine motor skills for delicate frame adjustments, custom repairs, and tool calibration.
- Quality Control: Inspect completed eyewear with extreme attention to detail and strong numeracy skills.
Qualifications & Skills
- Industry Experience: Proven background working within an optometric practice or optical environment.
- Tech-Savvy: Comfortable with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and digital lab equipment.
- Interpersonal Skills: Bubbly, outgoing, and deeply people-focused personality.
- Organization: Highly organized multitasker capable of keeping a busy clinic running smoothly.
