About the Role
Tl’azt’en Nation is seeking a patient, organized, and community minded Adult Education Teacher to support adult learners in achieving their education, upgrading, employment readiness, and personal learning goals.
This position works directly with adult learners to provide instruction, academic upgrading, learning support, life skills development, and individualized education planning. The Adult Education Teacher helps create a respectful and encouraging learning environment that supports confidence, participation, and long term learner success.
Key Responsibilities
The Adult Education Teacher will:
- Provide instruction and learning support to adult learners
- Develop and deliver adult education, academic upgrading, literacy, numeracy, and life skills programming
- Assess learner needs, goals, strengths, and barriers
- Create individualized learning plans and track learner progress
- Support learners with education upgrading, employment readiness, and preparation for further training or certification
- Provide one on one and group based learning support
- Adapt teaching methods to meet different learning styles, abilities, and confidence levels
- Maintain accurate attendance, progress notes, learning plans, and program records
- Prepare reports, updates, and documentation as required
- Support learners in accessing education, employment, training, and community resources
- Work collaboratively with Education staff, leadership, community programs, and external partners
- Promote a safe, respectful, inclusive, and culturally supportive learning environment
- Integrate culturally relevant learning, community knowledge, and Indigenous perspectives where appropriate
- Support student retention, engagement, and participation
- Participate in staff meetings, planning sessions, and program development
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
The successful candidate will ideally have:
- Teaching certificate, education degree, adult education credential, or related post secondary education
- Experience teaching or supporting adult learners
- Experience with literacy, numeracy, academic upgrading, employment readiness, or life skills programming
- Experience working in or with a First Nation community is considered an asset
- Strong understanding of adult learning principles
- Ability to support learners with different needs, barriers, confidence levels, and education backgrounds
- Strong communication, planning, organization, and documentation skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, email, and basic computer applications
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check
- Valid driver’s licence is considered an asset
- Knowledge of Tl’azt’en Nation culture and community, or willingness to learn
