About Us
At Robust Gear and Industries, we specialize in high-precision custom gear manufacturing and advanced machining solutions. For over 40 years, our team has built a reputation for tackling complex engineering challenges, delivering unmatched quality, and serving diverse industrial sectors. We take pride in our clean, well-equipped facility and our commitment to investing in high-performance technology and tools.
We are currently seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented 5-Axis CNC Setup Machinist to join our production team. If you thrive on technical variety, tight tolerances, and taking ownership of complex setups from start to finish, we want to hear from you.
Key Responsibilities
- Advanced Setups & Operation: Independently perform complex, tight-tolerance setups and operate multi-axis CNC machines (specifically 5-axis milling/turning centers).
- Part Interpretation: Read and interpret complex engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) symbols to determine optimal machining sequences.
- Tooling & Fixturing: Select, assemble, and set up correct cutting tools, holders, and specialized work-holding fixtures.
- First-Off Inspection: Conduct meticulous first-off and in-process inspections using precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, height gauges, etc.) to ensure 100% part compliance.
- Optimization: Prove out new programs, troubleshoot machining issues, and optimize speeds, feeds, and processes for maximum efficiency and tool life.
- Shop Floor Tracking: Utilize our shop floor ERP system to log job times, track inventory, and maintain accurate production and quality records.
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience setting up and operating multi-axis CNC machines (with a distinct focus on 5-axis setups).
- Technical Expertise: Deep understanding of CNC programming logic (G-code/M-code), complex machining methodologies, and advanced work-holding concepts.
- Precision Focus: Proven ability to work comfortably within tight tolerances and highly complex, multi-sided geometries.
- Problem Solving: Strong analytical skills to troubleshoot challenging setups and optimize part processing on the fly.
- Digital Literacy: Comfort using computer systems on the shop floor for data entry and workflow tracking.
Assets (Nice to Have)
- Aerospace Experience: Experience manufacturing aerospace parts, components, or working under strict quality standards is highly desirable.
- Mastercam Experience: Experience with Mastercam programming (generating, modifying, or verifying toolpaths) is considered a major asset and will be highly valued.
- ERP Skills: Previous experience navigating and logging data within a shop floor ERP software system.
- Trade Certification: General Machinist (403A) or CNC Programmer/Machinist certification.
