We are seeking motivated university students to join our team as One-on-One Physics and Engineering Tutors. This paid, part-time internship focuses on supporting students enrolled in university-level physics, engineering and related technical courses.
Applicants may specialize in one subject or course area and are not expected to be knowledgeable in every topic listed.

In this role, you will provide personalized, one-on-one online tutoring within your area or areas of expertise. You will help students understand challenging concepts, develop effective problem-solving strategies and prepare for assignments, laboratories, quizzes and examinations.
This internship is ideal for students studying physics, engineering or a related technical field who enjoy explaining concepts, solving quantitative problems and helping others learn.
Responsibilities
- Provide personalized, one-on-one online tutoring for university-level physics and engineering courses
- Support students specifically within your subject or course area of expertise
- Adapt tutoring sessions to each student’s course requirements, academic level and learning goals
- Explain technical and mathematical concepts clearly using diagrams, examples and step-by-step problem-solving methods
- Help students understand the principles behind formulas rather than relying only on memorization
- Guide students through physics and engineering calculations, applications and problem-solving processes
- Assist students with practice problems, laboratory concepts, assignments and exam preparation
- Help students identify mistakes and improve their work without completing graded assignments on their behalf
- Teach effective methods for organizing calculations, using units and presenting technical solutions
- Prepare personalized practice questions or learning resources when needed
- Use screen sharing, digital whiteboards, simulations and online teaching tools effectively
- Track individual student progress and provide clear, constructive feedback
- Communicate professionally with students and the education team
- Collaborate with the education team to improve physics and engineering learning resources
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled at a Canadian post-secondary institution
- Studying physics, engineering, applied mathematics or another related field
- Must meet the eligibility requirements of the VFC internship program
- Strong academic knowledge in at least one university-level physics or engineering subject
- Applicants are not required to tutor every subject listed
- Strong quantitative, analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to explain technical concepts clearly, patiently and step by step
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Comfortable providing one-on-one tutoring in an online environment
- Reliable internet connection and access to a suitable computer
- Organized, dependable and committed to helping students succeed
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous tutoring, teaching, mentoring or teaching-assistant experience
- Strong grades in relevant university physics or engineering courses
- Experience supporting students with problem-solving and exam preparation
- Experience creating practice questions, worked solutions or educational materials
- Familiarity with digital whiteboards, engineering software, physics simulations or technical tools relevant to your subject area
Pay: $25.00-$35.00 per hour
