Position Overview
We are looking for a detail-oriented Finishing Prep Technician to join our finishing department. This role is responsible for sanding, scuff sanding, and surface preparation of all wood components prior to finishing. The quality of our final product depends heavily on this position, making it a key contributor to our shop’s reputation for excellence.
The ideal candidate takes pride in their work, works well under pressure, and is always looking for ways to improve quality, efficiency, and processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Sand and scuff-sand wood components to finishing standards
- Inspect parts for defects, inconsistencies, or surface issues before finishing
- Prepare all materials according to finishing schedules and priorities
- Maintain consistent quality across all projects
- Communicate with the finishing team regarding readiness, issues, or improvements
- Follow shop standards, procedures, and safety guidelines
- Keep work area clean, organized, and efficient
- Support continuous improvement by identifying better methods, tools, or workflows
- Work collaboratively with teammates to meet deadlines and production goals
Skills & Qualifications
- Strong attention to detail and pride in workmanship
- Experience sanding and preparing wood for finishing (preferred, not mandatory for the right candidate)
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure while maintaining quality
- Team-player mindset with a positive, solution-focused attitude
- Willingness to learn, take feedback, and improve over time
- Good time management and ability to prioritize tasks
- Physically capable of standing, lifting, and performing repetitive tasks
